Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

HaBO: More Birth Stories In Romance

You did it! We figured this one out! It is a truth universally acknowledged (by me for certain) that the Bitchery pretty much knows everything, and really, it's true. Scroll down to see the solution for this HaBO - and many thanks!

Delia writes in with a romance HaBO that’s perfect for the Day of Crazysauce HaBOs:

I’m looking for a western romance I got at a church garage sale ten years ago.  I remember that it had a brown/gold clinch cover, possibly with a horse, and I’m almost certain it was a Zebra romance from the early ‘90s.

The hero may have been named Colt, or he was so fond of his Colt rifle that even my twelve-year-old self knew it was a metaphor for Something Naughty.  The climax of the novel happened in the last or second-to-last chapter, in which the heroine on the verge of giving birth and gets her sorry ass kidnapped and held captive, chained to a bed in a saloon hotel room upstairs.  Her family may or may not own the saloon.  There is some stairs-destroying going down and it’s up to Mr. Colt to come rescue her—but it’s a trap!  She gets knocked out (with the butt of a gun?), he kills the Big Bad, who I think might be her brother, and they live happily ever after with an epilogue full of babies.

You know what we need in romance? More crazy birth stories. Really. With gun butts. Anyone recognize this book?

I know this one!  Jo Goodman’s Wild, Sweet Ecstasy.  It’s the first in the Dennehy Sisters series.  And, as much as I love Jo Goodman, the last book gets crazy-saucier: it’s about the fifth sister who, throughout books 1-4, was a nun.

  2. OMG.

This book (nay, THIS SERIES) is RedHeadedGirl bait, isn’t it?  ISN’T IT.

    (I love CrazySauce HABO Days.)

      Yes, please!

@ RedHeadedGirl: I swear when I read this HaBO I thought it was a book you had already reviewed!

I glommed onto Jo Goodman a few months ago, and am working my way through her backlist. I don’t have this one yet. Looks like a trip to the UBS for me this weekend. I do have the one with the nun. But I think RHG would do a great job on it, though.

RED69: Not even gonna go there.

  6. I’m glad you all figured out which book this is, because I am still stuck on the clinch with a horse on the cover.  Wasn’t Colt jealous?
