Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival: The Winner, Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, time to award another prize!

Thanks to the power of the Random Integer generator, the winner of the Sony Pocket and the case with the onboard light is… Carin who posted at 02:05 PM. Congratulations! Carin, please email me at sarahATsmartbitchestrashybooksDOTcom with your mailing address and I’ll send out your prize!

We’ve got two more days – books and digital reading ahoy until the end of Hanukkah. Then, it’ll be time to scrape the wax off the menorahs and put all the Hanukkah tchotchkes away until next year. Thanks for playing and good luck in the remaining contests!

We’ve got some really cook Hanukkah decorations in our neighborhood. One house has a huge menorah outside and one light goes on for each night. Another one has big ass dreidels in the yards, and one house has a ginormous Star of David lit up on the side of their house.

Then, way over on the other side of our neighborhood is the orthodox synagogue – many of its members live in the neighborhood. We pass it every day on the way to Diva’s school. She asked me why none of the houses over there had big Hanukkah lighted decorations up, like the ones in our half of the neighborhood. I think we’ve seen one wooden menorah.  I said I didn’t know—maybe it’s because they’re orthodox?

Diva said,“Huh. You can’t eat shrimp and you can’t decorate for Hanukkah. If I was Jewish I’d be Reform.” And I tried to start a discussion about the importance of adhering to your faith, even if it means you miss out on some stuff, but she’s 9 so that was kind of a waste.
