Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.

To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.

Ahoy! Contest the sixth!

imageOn the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)

Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I hide and read in my bed, which is kind of boring. But I love it!!!

  2. rd2129 says:

This is going to sound really bizarre, but where I work there’s a huge storage closet and almost no one knows it exists. I love bringing a chair in there with a cup of tea and taking a reading break. It’s like my little oasis.

  3. ijinx says:

I like to read on aeroplanes and airports. On the tube. In the tub. In bed. In restaurants. Imagine my envy when I saw one of the first e-readers to ever reach Austria on the tube. And I’m fond of pink. Everywhere you go, you can hide in a book.

  4. BethP says:

In bed – nothing can beat snuggling under the covers with a good book along with two dogs laying next to me and a cat above my head on the pillow.

  5. Kbrum says:

I used to hide what I was reading from my snoopy sisters and read certain books tucked inside a solid-looking seriously titled book, like “war and peace,” even when I was tucked right up under my blankets, torch and all. They used to whip the covers off every now and then to irritate me.  I no longer need read like this, thank god.
But Even though this was decades ago, I’d still do it if my sisters were anywhere on the loose.
    PLUS
I found out that my grandmother loved reading and to get some reading time in ,  she would escape by climbing on the roof of the house to hide from my dad and aunties .

  6. Susan Laura says:

Pink is so much more fun!

I hang out in my car and read in-between carpools and appointments. So nice and quiet . . . .

  7. My favorite place to read is in bed.

  8. J says:

There is no place I DON’T read – at stop lights, on the elliptical at the gym, when on hold at work, etc.  No need to hide – it’s pretty much accepted I always have a book with me ready to whip out at the first quiet opportunity!

  9. Christina says:

I like to curl up on the living room couch on the weekends so I can keep an eye on my son and at night I like to read in bed.

  10. CMD says:

When I’m at ‘work’ as a graduate student (i.e. lab), which is, admittedly, 99% of the time, I sneak away from lab and read on the comfy armchairs of an airy atrium nearby. It’s not really hiding, since any of my labmates can walk by and find me, but they generally don’t. At home with the parents & siblings & dog during the holidays, it’s the bathroom. Or the couch really early in the morning; I’m a freakishly morning person and no one else in the family is 🙂

  11. Lettetia says:

My very favorite place to hide and read is in the big comfy chair in my office, with a cup of tea and a nice bit of chocolate.

  12. lmfny says:

Honestly? I still read under the covers with a flashlight. 😉 I’m nearly 30, but it feels cozy and secure!

  13. Jeff says:

I read at work on breaks and lunch. I can’t seem to find alone time at home. So I really enjoy my hour lunch and my breaks at work. I’d love to win this for my wife who wants an ereader for Christmas. She says there so many books out there to read, that don’t come out in print.
So here’s my attempt to help her win it. Thanks for the amazing giveaway!!

  14. MicheleKS says:

Since I work at home now I don’t have to worry about hiding and reading but my favorite place to hide and read at my former job was the downstairs cafeteria because it was the only place no one would bother me. But if asked I always said the word ‘romance’ if that was what I was reading and handed them the book to look at. And amazingly, no one ever came up with a pithy comeback for that. Usually they were speechless- especially when I told them I was also writing romance.

  15. michellekcanada says:

Everyone knows that I am addicted so I read out in the open. However when I am near the end of a book or a super exciting chapter and I dont want to be disturbed, I sneak out to the bathroom so no one will disturb me. I think while I was reading the Outlander series, my butt hurt from sitting on the bathtub edge so many times.

  16. The Duchess says:

I’m a burrower. Even in summer, with the AC on. I burrow under mounds of pillows and blankets on my bed and turn on this tiny little overhead reading lamp, emerging for only bathroom breaks and snack forages.

It’s a good thing that my line of study involves lots of reading otherwise I have no clue how I’d get anything done…

  17. H says:

I remember hiding in the closet to read when I was a kid. These days, no hiding for me!

  18. Linda Blowney says:

When I was a kid, it was on the little porch roof outside of my bedroom window. Nowadays, it’s the bathtub for me!

  19. Kristie says:

For me it is curled up on my bed. In winter with a heating blanket. In summer mostly by the pool:)

  20. Michele H. says:

I’m another person who hides out in the bathroom.  It is the only place where I can be left alone for 30 minutes without someone seeking me out.

I also love reading late at night when everyone else is asleep.  Now that my twins are sleeping through the night, I’m able to do this again!

  21. zvi says:

I like to hide in the bathroom. I have an en suite so you can’t tell I’m in my room from the hallway. It’s great!

  22. tea says:

‘Tis not the season for introverts, that’s for sure. I tend to hide at the top of the stairs at my parent’s house—I can still SEE people (and hear them, unfortunately), but for the most part, I’m above the fray, it’s warm, and it’s light enough to read.

  23. Jenn L says:

There’s a loveseat in my basement where my hubby watches his ginormous TV. I sneak down there to escape the kids and him to read. When they are all in bed and I’m down there reading it’s like being in my own hideaway.

  24. Donna D. says:

In my car.  I’ll take a book when running errands or if I know I’ll be home early from work, and I’ll pull over in this rest area near us and read for a half hour to an hour, depending on how long I think I can get away with it.  I used to feel guilty…….but I got over it.

  25. Marina says:

I love going back to bed when everyone thinks I’m in the study writing papers and things, and reading for an hour or so instead. Weekend guilty pleasure.

  26. Anna Piranha says:

Oh, the bath, hands down (and pants too) is my favorite reading place.  I hear you can put your e-reader in one of those seal-a-meal bags to protect it. Touch screen probably doesn’t work that way though.

  27. Denise says:

I like to retreat to the comfy chair in my bedroom…I can look out the window and watch the snowflakes, glimpse Mr. Crazy Redsquirrel, and sink into a good book.  There is a little table for my beverage of choice, and nobody bothers me.  Fuzzy slippers are mandatory in cold weather, as is the wooly throw waiting on the chair.

  28. Hide? What means this word ‘hide’? I have three little sisters. There is nowhere in the house to hide. I can do a fairly good imitation of hiding in the basement, but the light down there sucks. Next best is the library, assuming nobody’s watching TV in there.

  29. Jewel Dedmon says:

Hubby is like the Princess and the Pea in bed – the slightest little thing prevents him from getting to sleep (I call him the Prince and the Pea) so when I want to stay up late reading I go back to the living room, in the corner of our big sectional sofa with a dog on either side of me, and my beverage of choice (determined by the outdoor temperature whether a nice amarretto on the rocks or a hot chocolate) and settle in with my book.

Oh, and squee – it’s pink!

  30. Leslee says:

I don’t try and hide unless the interuptions get to be too much. Then I go to my bedroom. Otherwise, the kids have accepted that if they want me to watch a movie with them that chances are a book is coming with me. So I just carry my book everywhere and read at every opportunity. That is why I love to exercise on a recumbant bicycle. I can read and pedal at the same time. 🙂 My mother in law has one of these (pink too) and it just looks so cool!

  31. Glory says:

In my car, parked in a remote corner of the supermarket parking lot. It’s near an artificial lake with a fountain. Birds nest there during the warmer parts of the year. It’s my secret spot where no one will bother me.

  32. Stacy says:

In bed, while my husband and dogs are sleeping. So peaceful!

  33. Tamara Hogan says:

My favorite place to read is the bathtub. Has someone made a waterproof digital reader yet?

  34. Kristy B. says:

If I need to hide, I escape to the bedroom—only room in the house with a lock 🙂

  35. Janet Lee says:

My house is a little small for hiding places. But luckily, my BF doesn’t bother me when I’m reading so I tend to hang out in the kitchen so I can stay near the coffeepot.

  36. Tamara S says:

My favorite place to hide and read is in the bedroom

  37. Jen C says:

I have been known to hide in my home office, under the guise of “cleaning” or “filing”. Anyone who knows me or my office knows that those activities rarely happen there. I’m actually leaning back in my office chair with my feet on the desk and my nose in a book.

  38. rosdrise says:

    Pink!

No need to hide when you live alone 😉

  39. SandyH says:

It’s winter so I love our cozy “study” which as a gas burning fireplace and a lovely view of the mountains. Great place to read.

  40. Cori K. says:

My bed. I *heart* reading in my bed. Yay bed!
