Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part Six!

image Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah, there’s a lot of family during Hanukkah, so maybe it’s time to go hide and read.

To continue the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital, I have a digital reader AND a case with a light – so you can hide in a closet and read. Not that I’ve ever done that, no. Not me!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). No shirt, no shoes, no service. Professional driver: do not attempt. Do not turn over. For ventilation, open window, or maybe a door.

Ahoy! Contest the sixth!

imageOn the Sixth Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A refurbished Sony 300 Pocket, with a new case with an onboard light. Note: this is not the touchscreen Pocket; this is the previous model with the buttons. And, it is PINK. (I love this shade of pink on the Sonys. It’s awesome.)

Just leave a comment below, and tell me your favorite place to hide and read, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I will admit, I’m having a good time over here.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

There’s a little loveseat in our office that is just the right shape to sit on sideways, with my legs under a blanket and a pillow behind me.  It’s in a bay window, so there’s lots of light in the daytime.  The only problem right now is that I really need the blanket, because the windows are cold and drafty!  But a hot cup of tea and a book make it a perfect reading nook.

I never really have to hide to read, since I read everywhere possible (except the shower…but I will get an entire book laminated eventually).  However, my favorite place to read is my back porch.  I love being outside when I read!  If the weather is nice (and it’s not the middle of summer here in AZ) I could sit outside for hours.  I’ve had roommates forget that I am home because I sat outside reading for so long, so I guess I have hidden away a bit to read after all!

I have many places where I hide and read (when you live with as many people as I do, you learn that such things are sadly necessary, lest someone interrupt you just at the best part of the book to get you to do dishes/laundry/walk the dog/burn some dinner), but I’d have to say that my favorite is under my bed. My bed frame is just tall enough that I can squeeze under it, and I have a bed skirt long enough that I can conceal myself quite effectively. A rolled up rug that never stayed in place on my carpet serves as a surprisingly comfortable pillow.

Favorite hiding spot would have to be away from home—at a corner table of this coffee shop where none of my friends and family knows I visit.

Occasionally, back when I was working and it was really slow, or the book very exciting, I’d hide out in the bathroom and read.  I still hide out and read in the bathroom at home.  It’s the only place I can go where everyone will leave me alone.

My favorite place to hide from the world and read is my bed, though.  This only works if there’s no one in the house to come bother you.  It’s hiding more the way you would from the monster under your bed than the real nusiances in your life.  But there’s still something very comforting about it.

I sit in the living room on the futon.  Southern window.  Oh pink.  Oh Sony that accepts library books.

    Under the covers!

    Midknyt says:

Probably not that unique, but I like to put my reader in a ziploc bag and read in the bath, though people usually know I’m reading.  Hiding wise I think when I close myself in my room right after a shower, while waiting to dry off enough to get dressed, I usually end up reading (and then taking an hour to get ready because I lose track of time).

    Gorgeous Nerd says:

The only place I can really hide to read is the bathroom; everywhere else is easily accessible, except for my bedroom, and I’m still frequently bothered there.  I love reading while I brush and floss most of all.

My favorite place to read is in bed, propped up on a couple of oversized pillows and snuggled beneath a down comforter…cozy.

My car. Preferably in a bank parking lot across from a graveyard. Why? Because it’s the only peaceful place anywhere close to my house and its between the house and my work. :)

I have to agree, that shade of pink rocks! As for hiding, under the covers?

There’s a nook in my local library, just behind the stairs leading down to the A/V section (and general fiction D-S) with huuuuuuge puffy cushions, and glass windows looking out on a shady section of garden.

I could sit there all day and read…

    Does the bathroom count?

Probably in my bedroom, as y 6 year old tends to check the restof the house before checking there. At this time of the year, I can also go out on the deck and he doesn’t think to love for me there.

In terms of a dream place to hide, it would have to be a nicely cushioned window-seat with curtains so I can pull those shut and hide away in my own little space for some quality reading time.

audience94: Well, I certainly hope I won’t have an audience of 94 if I go with the bathroom option!

In a green recliner in the bedroom right next to a bookcase with room for notepads, food and drink, and several sets of books (I’m generally reading more than one book at a time).

What a bunch of typing mistakes.

    1. That would be MY 6 year old, instead of Y 6 year old.
    2. REST OF, not restof
    3. he doesn’t think to LOOK for me there

This isn’t an entry and I’m not trying a duplicate; I’d just be so ashamed if I didn’t clarify my errors due to bad typing. I can’t try to pretent they don’t exist.

My favorite place to hide and read when I was a teenager was in my closet. I could spend hours of the night reading romance novels. Now, I love reading in bed, all cozied with a blanket and a cup of tea.

Love reading on my brand new room divan (it’s purple!) with my room locked (to keep those pesky intruders away) and a tall glass of green mango shake on the side table. :)

My one and only favorite place to hideaway and read is in the master bedroom, in bed. It’s so comfy. I love to read when The house is empty. It’s my time then and I love it! Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

I’ve been trying to think if I’ve ever hidden to read… much less have a favorite place.  I have done my fair share of reading in the car while waiting for kids’ sport practice to be done.  I did have a cover for my trashy paperbacks because my daughters had asked why the lady on the cover boobs were falling out of her dress and to preclude me from smacking some judgemental nosey person who might say something about my choice of reading material. The best way to hide is to don earphones, even without music, so people are not tempted to start a conversation when all I want to do is read.

I live in base housing, so there is NO privacy, community wide. I climb the concrete trellis by my front door and hide on the roof to read. It’s the one place my kids can’t get to me either!

I don’t even bother trying to hide it, everyone knows I’ll read everywhere I can!  During the winter, I especially love curling up in bed with a good book, hot tea and mega pillows and blankets.  It’s so cold outside right now, HIGH temps in the 30’s all week,  I’m freezing my tushie off here in VA!

  26. 26

My bedroom! It’s the only place where everyone won’t be loud as hell. LOL

I have to go in my bedroom and close the door if I’m looking for peace and quiet to read, but generally I can and do read wherever I happen to be.
