  1. Jaye says:

I like cities, small towns are ok, but I just can’t get into books set in space stations.

  2. Mary says:

Specific cities! When they give excellent descriptions and showcase whatever city they’re writing about. Love that.

  3. Lane says:

    Big cities are my favorite!

    Lane

  4. headgirl says:

Prefer cities but any setting can generate a great contemporary as long as it is matched with a cracking plot, believable and likeable characters and great romance!

  5. Alex says:

    Contemporaries, huzzah!

I enjoy city settings, mainly because I’m hooked on sports star romance at the moment and that’s where they all seem to be set.

  6. daffiney says:

Small towns—probably because I’ve never lived in one, so the idea that HEAs can happen there sounds about right.

  7. Bibliophile says:

Small towns for me – I grew up in one and I always have fun casting friends and neighbours in the various supporting roles.

  8. Emily E says:

It’s not the location that makes me like it or not.  It is if the story is obsessed with fashion or shoes.  That is just such a turn off to me.  Running in high heels?  Come on.  Give me sneakers or boots.  Spike heels might look sexy.  But they stop the flow of the story for me.

  9. I have a soft spot for small town romances, but IRL I would hate to live in one. (That said, I don’t really care about the setting, I read for the relationship.)

  10. LipsonassHater says:

Most definitely small towns. I love it when the hero and heroine have known each other their whole lives and discover that all that hostility is just pent up sexual tension. I think it is adorable. lol

  11. Cathy B says:

Cruise ships! Because I love me cruise ships. I met hubby on one so every cruise ship romance – and there aren’t many – is my own personal little bit of romance backstory.

  12. ritu says:

Uh, cities I guess. Small town not so much but then I read both of them in abundances. Its the relationship that matters.

  13. Brenda C says:

Cities 😀 but I’m not picky.

  14. Jen M in AZ says:

I’ve only just started really getting into contemporary romance, having been heavy into historical for some time.  But looking through the contemporary books I have read and liked, it seems that I like small town settings.  Thinking about it, something about them just seems cozy (which is appealing in winter!)

  15. Sally says:

Not sure I have a favorite contemporary setting. I have, however, been reading a couple of books set in small towns, and now am kind of sick of them. Kind of.

  16. April Brookshire says:

I love contemporary romance set in small towns.

  17. kathleen B. says:

I favor small town romances. I grew up in a small town and there was always some fabulous gossip about this one or that one finding true love.

  18. Elizabeth says:

I like small-town non-US settings, like all of Nora Roberts’s books set in Ireland. It’s like taking a little vacation when I read the book.

  19. Andrea says:

I am not particular about the setting so long as it is a good book.  But no matter how good the book, there is just no way I would voluntarily live again in a small town that is not basically a suburb of a city. 😉

  20. Like some others, I’m flexible as to settings; I like both small town and urban milieus.  What matters to me is that the details are convincing (if you’re using a real place, for goodness’ sake use—and take advantage of—the real geography and local color). Also, I’m often more interested in the immediate setting—bookshop, theater, archaeological site, lost temple of Ghlaghghee the Cat-God*) than whether that setting is in Ohio, Minnesota, Colorado, or South Carolina.

    *Apologies to John Scalzi,

    owner

    servant of the original Ghlaghghee.

  21. meganhwa says:

I like small towns as they seem rather quaint and a nice setting for romantic reunions and coming home stories. However so long as the likelihood of the couple getting together in whatever the venue is believable, and the romance is hot and the couple likeable, i doubt I would mind where the romance took place, even if it is on a space ship (*shrugs* can’t say I have read many sci-fi romances).

  22. Kristin says:

I love stories with a mountain setting – chilly temps outside make for cozy cabins, warm fires, and lots of excuses to share some body heat!

  23. E.D. Walker says:

    WANT. I love contemporary romances.

My very favorite setting is probably but small towns but really I love anything where the author really works to build the character’s world and make it feel like a real place to me.

  24. Margo says:

I’ve lived in lots of places, they all have their own flavor. All I care about is that the description of where the story takes place makes you see it in your minds eye.

  25. Tina C. says:

I was wondering how to quickly and concisely convey my feeling that I didn’t really have a favorite setting and why, when I saw…

However so long as the likelihood of the couple getting together in whatever the venue is believable, and the romance is hot and the couple likeable, i doubt I would mind where the romance took place, even if it is on a space ship

    What meganhwa said.

    Now that was easy.

  26. mahjchick says:

I am a fan of small town romances.  I love how the town serves as extended family.  However, as said before, a good author will make me really like wherever s/he is writing about!

  27. Debbie says:

Setting doesn’t matter so much to me, though I am a huge fan of billionaire husbands/misters.

  28. Laura (in PA) says:

I’m partial to the small town setting, but I do enjoy when something is set in a city I know. I love being able to actually picture where things are taking place.

  29. DivineKittyCat says:

Does it count if I like it when they start out in the city and then end up somewhere totally different for some random reason?

There was one I read years ago where the couple were on a road trip (not by choice) that I loved.

  30. mari says:

I’m going through a “american western” phase… could it be those delicious cowboys rather than the endless rolling plains? 0_o

    Mari

  31. Aliyah says:

I think that cities are the best places for romance – especially offices.

  32. L says:

I do like small towns as a setting but when the world building is good I do like settings in space.

  33. cruise ship. That appeals to me most!

  34. GoneNova says:

Space stations- Love in Zero G!

  35. tracykitn says:

love it all, but what I really love is reading about big cities because I don’t have to actually deal with the traffic…(Hate traffic; SO glad to no longer have to deal with it…)

  36. I think the backseat of any vehicle is the perfect setting for any story.  It can go from small town to big city to space station…well, maybe not the space station.  Unless it’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and then it can time travel, too!

  37. Ann says:

I prefer small cities maybe because I’m from a bigger city.  Great selection of books for the giveaway.

  38. Alex says:

Cities, but I don’t really mind too much

  39. AndieG says:

I tend to focus more on the characters than the setting, but if I have to pick one, I’d say cities first, then small towns.  I don’t generally like my romance mixed with outer space so the space station would be pretty much out.

  40. Rory says:

The location is unimportant if the story is enthralling enough.  Forced to pick I would say small town setting.
