Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival Giveaway: Part One!

imageHanukkah oh Hanukkah, you’re early as what the hell now this year! Which means… it’s fun and games time here at the Hot Pink Palace of Bitchery!

Tonight begins the festival of Hanukkah, wherein Jewish folks light the menorah, consume fried things, and celebrate for eight nights. And since the Jewish folks are known as The People of the Book, I figured, let’s celebrate reading, eh? I’ve been saving up items all year for the festive merriment to celebrate reading, both paper and digital. Are you ready to rumble? I hope so!

These contests are super easy. All you have to do to win is leave a comment, and I’ll select a winner each day. These contests are open to international winners, and I will do my best to ship this week, provided people send me their addresses promptly.

Standard disclaimers: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. If anything, my gift is exceptional support of the United States Postal Service (Happy Hanukkah, US Mail Carriers!). Despite popular wisdom, Jewish folks don’t traditionally dance the hora on Hanukkah. Your mileage may vary. Slippery when wet. Bon Jovi was not harmed in the making of this giveaway. Hanukkah candles never fit in the menorahs, no matter what you do. A latke a day is probably not good for your cardiovascular health.

Ahoy! Contest the first!

imageOn the First Night of Hanukkah, Smart Bitches Gave to Me: A brand spanking new Sony!

From the fine people at Sony, I have here a PRS-650, better known as the new Sony Touch. It’s red. It’s very sexy. And it can be yours as part of the Smart Bitches Hanukkah Festival.

Just leave a comment below, and tell me what book you’d buy or borrow first, and you’re entered to win. Comments close in 24 hours, but fear not, there’s another book – paper or digital – giveaway coming soon. Because Hanukkah lasts for eight crazy nights, and I have lost my ever lovin’ mind.

Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Reading!

I’m waiting one month because in January Archangel’s Consort by Nalini Singh comes out, and I have convinced the boyfriend of a friend to buy it in the US and send it to me… so I’ll be able to read it almost at the same time it comes out… I can’t wait! (Hope he doesn’t chicken out just because it’s a “libro de tias”)

  2. Babs says:

What an absolutely awesome way to celebrate.

Someone is going to be very very happy from this post (not me—already have a Kindle so won’t answer the question). 😎

    Happy Holidays everyone.

  3. Ollie says:

I still haven’t read that Songs of Love and Death anthology, so if that’s available for an e-reader I’d snap that one up!

  4. Alex says:

I have an Amazon wishlist spreading over about 20 pages – how do I pick just one thing off that?!  Probably The Fry Chronicles by Stephen Fry because I’m really not sure I can wait till Christmas morning to see if some kind soul has bought it for me.

  5. Milena says:

Wow, this is a good way to celebrate. Happy holidays.
And as for the book, the first one I’d buy would be legion: I want electronic editions of Georgette Heyer’s entire opus. I’ve got almost all of it in paperbacks, very lovely, some even with “first time in paperback” on them, but they’re old and every time I take any one of them in my hands, I’m afraid that they’ll fall apart. So I want the e-editions to read, and the paperbacks to be proudly displayed and lovingly preserved. Yes, I read electronically, but I love my paper books, too.

spamword: what 39. Yes, there are more than 39 GH novels. 56 of them.

  6. Ell says:

Ooh, good question. What comes to mind is the next J.D. Robb. (I just swallowed whole the novella that came out yesterday.)

    spamword: old99. Well, yeah.

  7. OH My gosh!  What a fabulous giveaway!  My wish list has over 130 books on it, but if I had to choose just one, I would probably get the entire Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.  Yeah, I know that’s more than one book, but you can’t buy just one of that series! LOL

  8. Lisa V says:

Oooooh, I actually have to choose???  I keep hearing that Jennifer Cruisie writes some fabulous books, and what better way than to try them out on a new reader?  Paperbacks/hardbacks are brilliant but my addiction costs a fortune in Australia…ebooks would allow me to sate my love of romance(the addiction!) and not break the bank. LOL

  9. Lobo says:

The book on my wishilst for age is The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook so that would be my first choice.

  10. Bibliophile says:

If I got a brand new e-reader I would start by downloadin the reissue of Jennifer Crusie’s Trust Me on This, followed by the Songs of Love and Death anthology. Then the whole of Terry Pratchett’s books, because I have them all in hard covers and they don’t travel well.

  11. Jaye says:

I’d probably see what books I could borrow from the library.

BTW—wrapping a strip of paper towel around the very bottom of the candles can help stabilize them (see Mom, I did listen to something you said!)

  12. Rhian Cahill says:

First book would have to be the next Nora Roberts book but as that’s a bit of a wait I’ll grab any of the ones I’ve already read.

  13. Sally says:

An e-reader would be the perfect incentive to get me to check out An Accidental Seduction by Michelle Willingham from my local library’s digital collection. I’d had that book bookmarked ever since I found it in the catalog, but I never checked that or any books out because I wasn’t in the mood to download the necessary programs.

  14. Quill2006 says:

The first book that popped into my head was Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, and Connie Brockway’s new novel The Lady Most Likely, but as that isn’t coming out until the 28th (too far away!) I’d be likely to start with Songs of Love and Death, which I’ve been longing for, and then grab Mercedes Lackey’s new Valdemar anthology which is due on the 7th.  So many new books!

  15. MJ Fredrick says:

I’d get The Iron Duke because I hear EVERYONE talking about it!

  16. Zuleika says:

Wow, this is super sweet. Thankyou for this giveaway 🙂

I would pick The Native Star by M.K Hobson, because something described as a western-steampunk-fantasy-romance novel (with zombies!) needs to be on my (digital) bookshelf

  17. Peggy P says:

My first book would be the entire Outlander series – that’s a zillion pages all on that little reader… what heaven!

  18. Debbie says:

I’d beg borrow or buy the new Lisa Kleypas. Or maybe all the Lauren Willig flowers that I haven’t caught up on. Or maybe this Iron Duke that everyone keeps talking about. Or maybe…

  19. I think I’d see if I could get LaVyrle Spencer’s MORNING GLORY in digital format, though she retired before anyone had ever heard of ereaders so that’s iffy. Anyway, it’s one my favorite books ever, and it’s been too long since I reread it last…

Ana, have you checked out http://www.bookdepository.com? They have free delivery and deliver to most countries around the world. I pre-ordered ARCHANGEL’S CONSORT from them already…

    spamword: should68 …Not 69?

  20. Sabrina says:

    Great giveaway!

The first book I would buy (I like to own the books I read) is Stray by Rachel Vincent. I’m right now reading her YA series and want to know if her UF series is just as good.

  21. Sarah W says:

I saved up for a Sony Reader, and then, like the movie UP! I needed the money for more pressing needs.  Someday – maybe now?

Butterfly Tattoo would be the first book I’d buy – but not the last!

  22. Debbie says:

From my sister to everyone! (Don’t worry, she’s not one of these guys in disguise) Happy Hanukkah.

  23. JessicaL says:

Happy Hanukkah!!  And Happy December 1st!!
I think I would get J.D. Robb’s newest, “Indulgence in Death.”  Love that series!  There have been over thirty books in the series and I don’t feel over it yet.

  24. Lyssa says:

Well I will spin the dredel, and see what book I would wish. Oh to read Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning as soon as it came out! (It was that or “Breaking the Rules by Brockmann, but I figure I would be pushing things to want the dredel to dump that coin in my lap.)

  25. Carla says:

I think the first one I would go for would be The Girl Who Played With Fire.

  26. carob says:

This is amazing giveaway. You rock the holidays!

The book I’d choose… Outlander by Diana Gabaldon because my copy has falling apart after one too many reads.

  27. Tamiris says:

Happy Chanukah, everyone! The first book I’d download would be A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James. Then I’d download the Wick mini-sequel and have the whole series in one place.

  28. Rebecca says:

I’d go for a new (non-falling apart) edition of Georgette Heyer’s Venetia.  And then hit Gutenberg for the travels of Madame de Stael in Spain and all of Jane Austen.  And a lot of other stuff….

Spamword: looking95 – it must be because it’s early in the morning…..

  29. kathy says:

I would order “World without end” by Ken Follett.  It’s over 1000 pages and I don’t want to have to lug it around in paper form.  But a cute littel ereader would take care of that.  Happy Hanukkah Sarah!

  30. Gorgeous Nerd says:

Ooh, how lovely!  I’d get Hunger Games first, since I’ve heard a lot of great things about it and I haven’t been able to get to the library recently.

  31. Sycorax says:

Ever since reading BLack Out and All Clear, Connie Willis’ dark and engrossing time travel duo set in the London blitz, I’ve been wanting to reread To Say Nothing of the Dog, her equally engrossing but absolutely hilarious time travel book set in Victorian England. That would be my first choice. It always makes me laugh, and the romance isn’t bad either (whereas the one in the other books makes me want to cry, for complicated, spoilerish reasons).

I’m hanging out for Archangel’s Consort too, Ana, but I want the next Psy/Changling book even more. Seven months!

  32. Missy Ann says:

Had to go take a look at the wishlist and the perfect book jumped right out at me: The Spy Who Saved Christmas!

Fried things?! I can do that, I’ll consume some later today in honor of Hanukkah. 😀

  33. I would buy Scandal by Amanda Quick.  It would be great to have an eReader that can borrow from my library.

  34. Tamara says:

I’ll agree with several people on here and say Iron Duke. It’s looming near the top of my must-read list.

    Great contest! Happy Hanukkah!

  35. PattiR says:

    Great contest.  Happy Hanukkah!!
Well, I would probably get Karen Marie Moning’s, ShadowFever and the rest of the ‘Fever’ back list.  Love that series!
Then I would try and get all the books I had to give away when I moved a few years back.

  36. Susan Laura says:

Oooh, pretty! And my first book would be “Packing for Mars: the curious science of life in the void” by Mary Roach.
