Merry Christmas Kindling!

Book Cover Merry Christmas! Want a Kindle?

Since I did a straight week-plus of giveaways for Hanukkah, I figured I should have a present for you for Christmas. How about a chance to win a generation 3 Kindle? All you have to do is leave a comment and tell me your favorite gift received or given this year, and I’ll pick a winner on Sunday 26 December. Contest runs until 4am 26 December 2010 EST.

Standard disclaimers apply: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway, and I don’t secretly belong to Amazon, though if I did, I would SO be prime-able. I’d be Optimus Prime-able. Socks are recommended. If you keep making that face your face will freeze like that. I have no desire for figgy pudding, thank you.

Good luck, happy reading, and merry, merry Christmas to those celebrating today!

Actually, I bought a Kindle for my oldest son for Christmas, and I am really, really excited for him to get it. I’m also very, very jealous. I want one, lol. Merry Christmas, everyone!

  2. Sarah W says:

My favorite gift was given last night, but not to me.  My seven-year old forfeited her bedtime story for squirting an entire bottle of hand lotion down the sink in pretty patterns (I do not exaggerate).

As I tucked her in, she was crying because she thought she’d put her Christmas gifts at risk.  My three-year old climbed into bed with her, gave her a big hug and said, “You’ll get presents.  I got you one.  I love you.”  The seven-year old said she was glad she had a sister to make things better.  They fell asleep together.

Sisters who love each other . . . is there a better gift than that?

  3. Rose D says:

My favorite gift this year is having my first christmas with my two-half sisters.  We did nto grow up together and now we have reconnected.

  4. Jennifer in GA says:

I found some adorable Doctor Who bracelets on Etsy. I’m giving them to my daughters, who I hope will love them!

  5. Ahlison says:

    I can’t top Sarah W…

My favorite gift received – a bathtub caddy – with a spot for your wine glass, the bottle and a book support.  Favorite and most practical!

  6. Pamelia says:

My husband got me season 5 of Dr. Who on DVD.  (Don’t ask how I know already, but I do and I can’t wait to watch the whole season on my week off next week.)  Merry Xmas, Happy New Year.

  7. Robin F says:

My favorite gift this year is the jedi robe I’ve gotten for my husband.  I can’t wait to see his face when he wears it for the first time.

  8. Leah says:

I was able to give my Dad a lot more money this year. His wife has been really ill, he’s her only caregiver and they’ve been struggling. I’ve also been able to send him $20 bucks a week so he can have guilt free flea market spending money, which is his only fun at the moment.

  9. Angie G says:

I give my mom and sister framed family photos.  I take pictures throughout the year and then have the hardest time narrowing it down to just the few spots that I have for them in collage frames.  It’s a personal gift that I love giving them.

  10. Cat says:

Favorite gift this year so far has been getting my desktop computer fixed. No more making myself even blinder looking at a wee netbook.

  11. Favorite present given this year:

My 3 year old and 5 year old nephews are getting a Playmobil fire engine for xmas this year.  In the spring, they came to visit me and my husband and his captain took them out on the *real* fire engine.  They had a complete blast (especially since the captain drove really fast for them).

I love Playmobil toys anyway, but the best thing about this one is that there’s a little tank on the truck that you fill with actual water and then the hose really works.  My brother will HATE that.  Cracks me up.

Captcha: probably26.  My brother will probably curse me 26 times for giving this to his kids.

  12. Peggy P says:

I received a wonderful gift a few weeks ago – a phone call from the woman I worked for 5 years ago offering me a great job working for her again. The phone call was out of the blue and has changed my life, I left the job I had come to hate and the 85 mile roundtrip for a much better job, better pay and it’s only 7 miles from my house! I’ve gained 2+ hours a day of free time which I’ve put to good use by reading and riding my stationary bike every day.

Such an unexpected change – it’s just grand!

  13. Favorite gift I’m giving: It’s a toss-up between “Repo: The Genetic Opera” for my sister-in-law, because it’s her favorite movie, and a harmonica for my nephew, because it will amuse him and annoy his parents! 🙂

  14. ks says:

The husband and I bought a new bed a couple of weeks ago as our Christmas gifts to each other.  Our old bed was in really bad shape, so this was really needed.  Plus, it’s quite comfortable and bigger than the old one.  And has been quite broken in already.  That’s my favorite received.

  15. hollygee says:

I found two tin-sculpture-framed mirrors at a flea market. I kept one and gave one to my sister-in-law-in-law—a treasured friend.

  16. Kathy B says:

My favorite gift ever received?  Last Christmas when my darling, oh-so-feminine daughter runs into the house and screams “I’m f***ing engaged!!!!!!!”

  17. Amanda S. (ManaChelle) says:

My favorite gifts are given to my girls 😉
My 12 yr old gets an ereader and my 2 yr old gets a drum set. It’s something they both really wanted this year and I’m so happy that we were able to give them these things.
Christmas is so fun for the kiddies <3

  18. Courtney says:

My 2 and a half year old son is getting a Thomas table of his very own. He loves to go and play with the one at Barnes and Noble. I cannot wait to see his face tomorrow morning when he sees it.

  19. Sarah L says:

I think my favorite gift given is I got my little sister tickets to a concert by one of our favorite singers (and me a ticket to go along with her). We’re going to have a great girls’ night out!

  20. Kristi says:

    A KINDLE!! WOOHOO!

Okay, okay. My favorite gift given this year is a charm bracelet for my sister with personalized charms, photos of my kids on it, and a photo of my brother who died a few years ago. SHe’s gonna LOVE IT!

  21. tracykitn says:

I think I love most of the gifts I’m giving this year, but I already know what I’m getting from my mom (I did, after all, pick it out). It’s a 150-year-old stained glass panel that we found in a little shop here, and she had it framed for me. I just have to pretend to be surprised when I unwrap it, and then figure out where to hang it… but for absolutely favorite gift I’ve given, I took my 10YO daughter and her best friend into Savannah to spend the day shopping and watching The Nutcracker earlier this month. Crazy, but fun!

  22. A.R.H. says:

One of my nephews has reached the age of devouring chapter books, and I was delighted this year to be able to start giving him bundles of books.

  23. Nadia says:

Favorite gift given this year?  Hmmm, I think the soon-to-be-retired American Girl doll the younger child is getting will be the star of Christmas morning.

Favorite gift received, I already have in my hot little hands:  tickets to the Rose Bowl.  Go Frogs!

  24. LaurieW says:

Well, my favorite gift, I hope, will be my son coming home for R&R from Iraq shortly after the New Year.  Other than that, I have way too many blessings in my life to worry about getting more – I prefer watching the little ones open theirs.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

  25. Emily says:

My favorite gift this year is kind of dumb, but I think my dad will love it.  It’s a “Nuclear Power Plant” which is a ceramic plant holder shaped like a nuclear power plant and some wheatgrass seeds.

  26. Betty Fokker says:

The best gift I received this year was a surprise check from my parents, which I then converted into presents for my kids :0)

  27. CatG. says:

My favourite gift this year was a lava lamp with my favourite hockey team’s (the Montreal Canadiens, affectionately known as the Habs) logo on the front and the team colours bubbling away, surfacing and resurfacing as the wax heats! One of my students gave it to me, knowing that lava lamps and the Habs are two of my favourite things in the whole world … it was the thoughtful combination that moved me and made me love it so much!

  28. Lauren D says:

My favorite gift that I’ve given was a handmade pair of bunny slippers. They were for a slightly gothy 11-year old, so instead of the typical pink they were black and red. I wanted to keep them for myself so freaking bad, but she loved them so much I was glad I gave them to her

  29. AnnB says:

A funny stuffed gorilla that is going to a foster child. I hope it gets and gives lots of hugs.

  30. Carol M says:

I know it’s trite and ridiculous, but honestly, I’m not getting any presents that I know of. The best “present” for me is that after 2 years of being unable to give my kids anything for Christmas, I have a job that I love and although I had to work 50-60 hour weeks to achieve it, my girls are going to have an awesome Christmas this year!! Nothing beats that in my book.

  31. Kimberly Anne says:

I had fun giving gifts this year, but if I had to choose, I think my favorite was the miniature Cthulhu I crocheted for my sister.  Coming in a close second would have to be the magnetic Katamari Damacy ball I made for a friend.

Why yes, I am a geek.  Whyever do you ask?

  32. Mari says:

I was asked by my adopted soldier if I could find him a “My Little Pony” to replace his team’s lost mascot.

My Amazon foo is mighty and I managed to obtain and send to him the Pinkest Pony of them all as part of his Christmas gift.

Definately the funniest thing I’ve ever sent to a bunch of Manly men 🙂
    Mari

  33. Rebecca says:

I got my roommate an adult onesie set of pajamas that look like an angry tiger.  It had to be imported from Korea.  If you don’t believe me:

  34. CindyK says:

The best gift(s) I’ve received are gifts to and from myself (sad I know but really really good).  I bought myself a new sony ereader. Yay! love it- and I still love my Jetbook lite! I’m slowly converting my family over…. And I’ve lost alot of weight, not at goal yet but will be in another 6 months or so. (I lost as of this morning 104lbs! And I’m doing a skinny dance every time I think of it!).

  35. Marsha says:

So many fun, thoughtful people read SMTB!  Of course, I should not be surprised, we romance readers are wonderful folk.

My sister and her husband celebrate the Super Bowl as a High Holy Day.  There is a block party to which everyone is invited and the the family stays home from school and work the next day to reflect on the meaning of the event.  They have a special breakfast and look at pictures from past year’s games (“Oh, that’s the year that Susie dumped the onion dip on Bill!”)  No matter the teams playing, the whole affair is taken joyfully and seriously.  This year I found a Buffalo Bills tote (there is a particular woe in being a Bills Fan, sniff) which I filled with football-shaped serving bowls and platters and themed decorations like banners and tablecloths and the like.  Despite the regularity of their gridiron-based entertaining, they don’t yet have any of these kinds of items and I.  Cannot.  Wait.  for them to open that box.  A Super Bowl party kit!  (If only I could give them a winning season for the Bills then all would be perfect…)

  36. rigmarole says:

I’m giving 25 pairs of thick woolly socks to someone who’s spending her first winter in the frigid Upper Midwest. One can never have enough socks.

  37. kathybaug says:

My favorite gift to give is The 3-D User’s Guide to the Millenium Falcon to my Star Wars-crazy grandsons ages 10 and 8.  I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces!

  38. Sabrina says:

My favourite gift I have given away this year are romances to my sister. She normally never reads romances and I wanted to share my favourites with her.

  39. becca says:

my favorite gift to give this year was a set of 511 Tactical pants and shirt to my husband – he loves how comfortable they are, even though he has no relationship to any police force.

My favorite gift to receive was an anatomically correct plush heart key chain dangle that my kids got me from Hot Topic.

  40. @Mari—I hope they send you pictures and that you share with all of us!  Manly men with a pink My Little Pony mascot is awesome!!!
