Sony Reader: Eat, Read, Sleep

imageSony contacted me about doing a giveaway in celebration of the premiere of Eat Pray Love, which hits theatres this week. A Sony Pocket! In sexy silver! With a leather case (that is really a beautiful shade of blue on the outside) and two download codes for both of Elizabeth Gilbert’s books! Woo hoo for digital reading devices!

imageI know many of you are paper reading fanatics – which is absolutely awesome with sauce – but if you’re curious about trying digital reading but haven’t gathered all your pennies into one place to buy one, here’s a chance to win one, AND get a beautiful leather cover (can you tell I really like that blue?) with two free books.

All you have to do is leave a comment here and tell me, if you won, which book would be the first book you’d put on your Sony Reader, aside from the two free downloads? A romance? A mystery? A book on how to make your own leather Sony Reader cover with skulls and crossbones? I’ll pick one at random and announce the winner on Friday 20 August (Good Lord willing, creeks don’t rise, etc). You’ve got 48 hours to tell me which book gets to be “FIRST!” in your Reader.

Disclaimer: I’m not being compensated for this giveaway. I don’t even get the pretty blue leather cover, much as I love that color like whoa and nelly. Tie your shoes. Machine wash cold, lay flat to dry. Do not dry clean. Not available at salons. Digital ink on 100% post-consumer bytes. Melts in your mouth, not in your hand.  Not recommended for children. Prerecorded for this time zone. This broadcast has been reformatted to fit your screen. No solicitors. You can learn more about the bundle at the Sony Style store, and you can really really like Sony Readers on Facebook.

Well I am resistant to the ebook craze but I also like new tech things so I’m always a bit torn. If I got a free Sony Reader I think the first book I bought would be a mystery. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest specifically because I borrowed the first two from my boss. She doesn’t want to buy the third until it’s in paperback and I hate owning just one book of a series and I hate owning a series where the books are in different formats. Ebook form would let me read it right now and it wouldn’t be messing up my bookshelves.l

  2. Mary Beth says:

It would be the new Elizabeth Hoyt, Eloisa James, or Lisa Kleypas release—whichever one I find first and click on “buy.”

  3. AR says:

Whatever new book I could get through my public library first!  So many are out constantly!

  4. Lori says:

Something major naughty, like Naughty Bits 2. To see if the e-ink screen steams up. Something about erotic romance on an electronic device appeals to me, in a BDSM sort of way.

  5. Morning Glow says:

First book I would put on there? Probably “Born To Bite” by Lynsay Sands, or “Maybe This Time” by Jennifer Crusie. Both books are released August 31, and I can read them sooner if I have the ebook (and pretty new reader, of course.)

  6. Sonja says:

I would get The God of the Hive by Laurie R King, because I’ve had a request in at the library for it for six months, and I just can’t wait anymore! Or maybe I would just get the new Nora Roberts. You know.

  7. Sara says:

Hmmm – that’s a really hard question. I’d probably buy Loretta Chase’s Last Night’s Scandal first (I’ve got a hankering to read it) and then probably Pride and Prejudice, as I must have my favorite book in all formats!

  8. Kimberly Moffett says:

I don’t have an exact book in mind, just as long as it has all the greats in it. I’m talking sassy heroines, embarrassing families, funny mishaps, and you can’t have a great book without the brooding he-man with a hidden heart of gold. I mean who doesn’t love that guy?!? So I would probably choose something from Dana Marie Bell or Janet Evanovich.

  9. Michele Lee says:

I admit the first thing I’d do (other than squee and play with it and show everyone the shiny) would be transfer the ebooks I already have on my computer onto it. Then I’ve had an hankering to reread P.C. Cast’s House of Night series, so I’d buy ebook versions of the two latest and read the whole series 🙂

  10. Michelle Leonard says:

I would definitely download Eloisa James’s A Kiss at Midnight!  Can’t WAIT to get my hands on that one.  🙂

  11. Rae says:

Belladonna by Anne Bishop. I have the hard copy, and started trying to read it, but quickly discovered that my sitting with the sleeping 4mo on my shoulder made it very hard to turn pages. The problem compounded when a cat joined the pile. See? I’m beginning to think an eReader might be the only way I ever get to read a book again.

  12. Sandy says:

I would probably download Deanna Raybourn’s Dead Travel Fast

  13. This first book I would put on my Sony Reader is Mr. Peanut by Adam Ross.  I’ve been reading lots of reviews and listening to a bunch of book review podcasts, and it sounds like a great book.

  14. tls says:

The complete works of Mary Stewart.  If I have to pick one, it would be Madam Will You Talk.

  15. Tara says:

First book? Mockingjay! After that it would get tough to choose, but Crusie’s Maybe This Time is highly anticipated!

  16. Jenny J says:

I would download Chloe Neill’s Twice Bitten. Followed by Devil In Winter by Lisa Kleypas (a re-read that I have been trying to get my hands on at the library) and Jennifer Crusie’s new novel.

  17. donna ann says:

wow—would be willing to win this 🙂  first book – sandra hill’s outlaw viking.  have been interested in reading it since discovered her books early this year, can’t find it in paper, but it was just recently released in e-book

  18. Venetia says:

Ooh, where to start … I think I would first get some of the books in my ‘to-read’ pile that are so heavy in hardcover or paperback that they make my wrists hurt. Rather off-putting! Then I would go on a spree at AllRomance because they have some really awesome looking ebooks but I do not like reading long stories at the computer, so I’ve been resisting. And I could increase my books without having to find more space on my shelves! (A rather important consideration, at this time. And I just donated boxes of books! Where did all these new ones come from?)

  19. tea says:

If I won, I’d put Gail Carringer’s third book of the Parasol Protectorate on it—can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t WAIT for that!!

  20. Fallun says:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies!  I’ve been dying to read that since I saw it in a book kiosk at Denver Airport when it first came out – but I was on the way home and didn’t have enough in USD to buy it, and the Chapters here never seems to have it in stock.  And it would be nice to not have to struggle to hold books for more than a few minutes at a time – reading on my computer isn’t very restful on the eyes, and it’s hard to snuggle up in bed with a good PC!

run73 – when I was a kid, we had to run 73 miles in the snow to and from school, uphill both ways…

  21. Lil' Deviant says:

    *twirls in circles*
I would read Married by Morning by Lisa Kleypas.  Been wanting to read the last two books and just haven’t had a chance to pick them up.

  22. Lindz says:

“Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov.  My paperback copy is starting to fall to pieces, I’ve read it so much!

  23. Sarah S says:

Alison’s Wonderland that you’ve been advertising in your side bar. I read the excerpt and…ohmy!

  24. Miriam says:

The first book I would put on my eReader would be “Reading in the Dark”, literary critic Seamus Deane’s memoir. It is one of my favorite books and each time I read it I am both comforted and saddened.

  25. ruthier says:

I would have to download “These Happy Golden Years” which is my all time favorite book. After that would be something by Lori Foster.

  26. Carla Brindle says:

It would be “One For The Dough” by Janet Evanovich. People have been pestering me for some time to read the Stephanie Plum series and I figure I should at least check out the first one.

  27. Carla Brindle says:

Oops I meant “One For The Money”!

  28. Kristi says:

Too hard to choose a first book. A romance from one of the e-pubs (since I hate to read long stories on the computer screen, and would like to try some alternatives to the bookstore imprints). No, one of JA Konrath’s thrillers because I keep reading his blog about his success in e-publishing and I’m curious as to how he actually writes. Or, knowing my daughter and her intense interest in 1) anything gadget-y 2) books and 3) anything of Mommy’s, I’d probably be a nice Mommy and download something for her that we can read together at bedtime (she’s 6).  I wonder if there’s an e-book of Charlotte’s Web out there somewhere.

  29. Amanda says:

AAAAHHH!!!  It’s because of THIS website that I want an e-reader.  You guys have converted me from “Paper is the only way to read!”’ to “Gee, that sure would be nice so that I wouldn’t have to pack an extra suitcase of JUST books.”  Unfortunately, I’m at the stage of life of “Law school is too expensive for you to be buying fancy gadgets!”

I would actually download TWO books right away.  The last two Hathaway books by Lisa Kleypas.  First, your website got me hooked on the Bridgertons, now it’s got me hooked on the Hathaways. Unfortunately, you can’t GET those two books at the library right now because everybody and their brother is reading them, and it’s driving me crazy.

  30. Liz says:

I’d catch up on the Miles Vorskigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold.

  31. Holly says:

No Mercy by Sherrilyn Kenyon.  Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait!  🙂

  32. Lisa says:

I’d load Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins.  Can’t wait to read it!

  33. Leesa says:

The first book would be Sandra Brown’s “Smash Cut”.

  34. AndieG says:

After finishing my happy dance I would probably download the new Kristen Higgens book that everyone here has been raving about – that or possibly the biography “The Eternal Life of Henrietta Lacks”  which I have been dying to read for some time now.

  35. Lisa J says:

The first book I would put on – Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches’ Guide To Romance Novels.  I’m very sorry to say I haven’t read it yet and I would love it in e-book format.

  36. Jeepgirl says:

My first download would be Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie because I left that book on my deck in the rain.

  37. Isabel C. says:

Pratchett’s Unseen Academicals or Duane’s A Wizard of Mars. I want to read both, but I don’t buy hardcovers a lot: moving sixteen times in ten years has left me twitchy about acquiring anything large.

  38. tolouse says:

If this is open for international entries, count me in.
I think my first addition would be something by Shelly Laurenston/ G.A Aiken.. I so love her books

  39. appomattoxco says:

Since I don’t Have an ARC of Cryoburn it wwould be Hot Finish.

  40. Lisa Hendrix says:

First first book on Sony, I’d go with Maisey Yates’ first book, His Virgin Acquisition. I have a signed print copy, but she’s the one whose been pushing for me to get an ereader, so it just has to be her. Besides, it’s a great debut!
