Sizzling Summer Book Club Pick: Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Book CoverSizzling Book ClubTime for the next book club pick! I’ve been wanting to do a paranormal and a YA novel, and then I thought, why not both?! So the next pick is Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ Raised by Wolves. Check the blurb:

Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it. That doesn’t mean that she’s averse to breaking a rule or two.

But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian’s basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents’ murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs.

There are a lot of things to discuss in this book, not the least of which is the protagonist’s perspective – it is told in the first person, which I know annoys the dickens out of people so be warned. I rather like it, myself, but then I like variety in POV. And I cannot wait to hear what you think of the different gender roles in her pack.

Now, this is a hardback, so it is more expensive, but I think the story is totally worth it.

You can get a digital copy from the Sizzling Summer Book Club partner All Romance eBooks with a sexy 50% rebate – just use coupon code “SBTBARE” at checkout. You can learn more about the rebate and how you could win an iPod Touch and $100 in eBook Bucks over at their Sizzling Book Club page.

You can also get a paper copy of Raised by Wolves from any number of fine, fine book vendors, including Amazon, Powells, and and Book Depository.

I’m aiming for a chat session around Labor Day, so you’ll have time to read and enjoy. I can’t wait to hear what you think – happy end-of-summer reading!

I just finished this book a few days ago. Phenomenal stuff, it is!

  2. John says:

HELL TO THE FREAKING YEAH!  😀

I got this book for review for Dear Author a few weeks ago…and excuse to read, I tell you!  Not to mention it will be great fodder for the review ::plots maniacally::  Not to mention I can actually join the chat this time.  Bonus!  I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks of YA.  Barnes is supposed to be at her best with this one…and I’m excited.

Did I mention I was excited?  Cause, yeah, I’m excited!  😀

  3. Pickle says:

Sweet!  I already have this one on reserve at the local library.  Hope it comes in with enough time to read it.  If not, I’ll be a last minute ebook purchase!

  4. Carin says:

I just won’t pay hardcover prices, even with a rebate code. Luckily the library had it, so now I’m hoping I’ll get it time!

  5. Bea says:

I a friend of mien gave it a good review at her blog. I’ll have to see if my local library has it. I can’t afford the hardback price.

I enjoyed Friday’s chat for All I Ever Wanted and am sorry I had to leave before Kristan arrived.

  6. misti says:

I actually read this about a month ago! Unfortunately, I wasn’t really a fan. Still, when the discussion comes up, I’ll be there!

  7. Jin says:

Pretty sure you meant to change the book you can get in hard copy from “All I Ever Wanted” to “Raised By Wolves.” Cut and paste foul!

Spamword: Which87. Why, Sidney Crosby, of course!

  8. SB Sarah says:

YES. Cut and paste fail indeed!

  9. Karen W. says:

A fortuitous pick for me because I just finished reading RAISED BY WOLVES.  I look forward to the discussion.

  10. Sycorax says:

I listened to this one on audiobook a month or so back and developed a crush on the father figure. I want a romance novel about Callum. Sam was so uninteresting.

  11. KinseyHolley says:

I will make this one. I will, I will, I will. If it’s on Labor Day, tho, that would make it a whole lot easier. Just sayin…

  12. Daniela says:

I hope that this is a good one! I was a bit iffy on it, but then, after I got it and was reading the inside flap and I read that it said “a heroine who rivals Buffy” I got excited! I am, like the biggest Buffy freak ever, so I have high hopes for this one!

  13. Daniela says:

dude, read it, loved it SO MUCH! it was one of the best YA books I have read, pluse one of the best first person POV books that I have probably ever read!
I’m so happy that you guys chose this book, I enjoyed it so much!
I can’t wait for the next book that you guys pick, because I know that it will be awesome as well!
