Tomorrow, if ye be in Brooklyn or parts nearby, avast, for I will be part of a splendiferous panel on romance at one of the best independent bookstores in North America, WORD Brooklyn.
Along with New York Times bestselling authors Sara McLean, Lauren Willig, Hope Tarr and I will be doing one of those fun panel discussions all about romance, why it’s awesome, and what all you might like to read. I hear rumors of a booksigning afterward.
The event was in the New York Times last weekend, which gave me a major OMGWHUT? moment, so I hope that if you’re there, you’ll introduce yourself. PLUS WORDBrooklyn will be unveiling their new romance section, so I will definitely have a party in that aisle. I might even rip a bodice.
There are details and directions at the WORD website, and I’ll be driving in from Jersey. How many hours do you think I need to go all 22 miles to Brooklyn? I’m budgeting 2.5 hours travel time. No, that’s not a typo.
PLUS, in RWA news, if you haven’t seen the Tweet mania, I’m on the RWA schedule this year with a panel I’m so excited about I might have to rip my bodice again. Friday 30 July at 4:30pm, I am moderating a panel with Teresa Medeiros and Jill Shalvis. Jill will be talking about blogging, and what topics beyond writing make for great interaction online, and Teresa will be schooling us in the fine art of Twitter and Facebook as she uses it social media interaction and subtle promotion.
Here’s where I politely request your assistance, bodice not required. I have to introduce Teresa and Jill, and while I have their official bios with books and bestsellerdom and all, I wanted to include what you would say to introduce them.
Is there a book you adored that they wrote? Anything special about their writing that totally rocks your socks? Please leave your comments about either author – or both! – and I’ll incorporate them into my introduction so that those present get a real sense of how much these two authors rock the casbah.
Wow! That’s so cool. I’ve been following Teresa on Facebook for some time and I always enjoy reading her posts there. She has such a great “voice” and her cats, especially Buffy the Mouse Slayer (heart slayer perhaps?) are often a highlight of my day. I can’t say that’s particularly great for an intro, though. Just wanted to share the fact that Teresa on FB is really cool.
Jill’s blog is terrific. And not just because it means I’m wasn’t the only one whining about the winter-that-would-not-end this year. Her style comes through loud and clear—and you get that same voice in her books, too. As for her books, the Wilder series had the best depiction of the Sierras in a romance novel. Ever.
I am sorry to say I have not read anything written by Jill. I’d love to learn more about her. However, I am a big fan of Teresa Mederios.
Teresa’s books are wonderfully written with characters you can’t help but fall in love with. I am happy to lay most of my adoration of romances squarely at her feet. It all started with her book, Yours Until Dawn and a train ride from Baltimore, MD to my home in Dutchess County, New York. I grabbed a copy at a newstand in the trainstation so I would have something to read on the way home. I sat down and read the whole thing from portal to portal. I handed my ticket over without even looking up. I’m pretty sure I yelled out OMG! when I read the delcious little plot twist towards the end. And I developed an affinity for ruby necklaces. 😉
I read it as I wheeled my luggage onto the connecting train at Croton Harmon. I hugged my family, blowing kisses over their heads, all the while reading over the good bits again. *nudge, nudge* *wink, wink* I’ve been a die hard fan ever since. Don’t get me started on Charming the Prince or The Vampire Who Loved Me or Some Like It Wild.
Is that what you were looking for? ‘Cause we can talk about Terri and the Squawkers. Or her fantastic smile. Or her great affection for her kitties.
Have fun with it all. The Brooklyn gig sounds devine. Makes me miss it there even more. I’ve been to your panels and you were terrific.
Yes, please mention Teresa’s love for her adorable cats, Buffy the Mouse Slayer (the older cat) and Willow Tum-Tum. She had a funny facebook post a couple weeks that stated something like: I get asked if I have an assistant. She then posted a pic of her assistants, the cats.

I met Teresa on Twitter before I started reading her books. Did you know she used to be a nurse? She has such an upbeat personality. I think she makes me laugh almost every day! And, now, after reading her books, she’s an auto-buy for me.
I’ve been reading Jill’s books for years, mainly the Bravas. I know I’ll get a fun, sexy, steaming read when I pick up her books.

Teresa Medeiros is, without a doubt, my all time favorite author. I’ve been reading her books for well over a decade. Whenever her new book hits the shelves, I buy it without even looking at the blurb; I know I won’t be disappointed.
Her unique voice is loaded with wit and sensory detail that pulls you right in. To this day, Captain Doom remains my favorite hero. And pirate 😉
Sarah – Terri is a mad, mad lover of The Windflower, in fact, she’s the reason why I read the book in the first place. I believe that might have written a foreward in one of the books reprints….
I love Jill Shalvis. Her voice definitely rings loud and clear on her blog – as does her love for her family and her pets. She’s so funny. And she writes some of the best contemporary romance out there IMO. She’s awesome.
I hate to say this but I haven’t read Theresa Medeiros in years. But I will say that when I first started reading (more like devouring) romance she was one of my early favorites. And so inspiring. I believe she was first published when she was 21. Since I was in my very early 20s at the time I thought that was so cool.
As far as I’m concerned, if a bad boy isn’t a pirate, he’s ALL TALK. And Captain Doom can swash my buckle any day.
Teresa’s Breath of Magic. It’s one of my die hard, die hard faves. Love and adore that book.

Love, love, love Jill Shalvis’ blog. She is wickedly funny…just snarky enough about her alpha man, girls and pets that even the mundane can seem interesting.
I just love it when she ditches writing and goes on adventures with Frat Boy and Ashes or her girls—the pictures are stunning and makes me want to go there on vacation (which is amazing since I am definitely not a nature lover – give me chlorine and a cement pool versus a lake, fish and weeds anytime.)
Her books are great fun and I often recommend her to anyone looking for a great contemporary book to read.
Why is it I learn about this bookstore only after I went to NY?
Anyway, have fun. I haven’t read either author yet but they are on my ginormous TBR pile.
