  1. Tessa Dare says:

Stone cold awesomesauce.  Best LIS-school recruitment video ever!  Makes me nostalgic for the good old days of library school.  My favorite part was the sexy demonstration of compact shelving.

  2. Jeannie says:

What can I say?  Librarians—we’re just cool like that.

  3. Lori says:

I am so broke that it isn’t even a little bit funny and I would still pay cash money to see the Librarian vs Soldier Gagapalooza.

  4. Marsha says:

“Antelopes courtesy of…” just might be the most awesome credit in the history of visual media.  Fantastic.

I work in information and record management and envy my LIS colleagues every day.  I could never be so cool.

  5. Aleyna says:

Love the video!  I have the brown tee one of them is wearing.  It’s a great tee from shirt.woot.com.  Unfortunately, it’s no longer available.

  6. Katherine C. says:

Twelve. Different. Kinds. of Awesome. Even if I didn’t already wish to be a librarian, that would have made me long for an MLIS of my very own. Fabulous.

  7. Donna says:

Miserable morning, but I am smiling now! Librarians are awesome.

else 87.. Yeah if you don’t agree I’ll give else87 different ways from Sunday.

  8. Donna says:

And now my coworker’s hubby brought us ice cream. Fridays aren’t so bad after all… Hope everyone else’s is going this good.

  9. Karen H says:

Yep, definitely totally AWESOME!  They are having too much fun!  Makes me wish I’d done that library science program I considered, instead of the computer science one.  Thanks for sharing with us.

  10. Debbie Q says:

That is so excellent. Makes me wish that I was a librarian.

  11. Susan/DC says:

And I even have the Nancy Pearl action figure to go along with the video.  Librarians are my heroes.

  12. Autumn R says:

I saw this in the UW newspaper today and I am soo excited that you posted it! It makes me wish I was studying to be a librarian.

  13. Kaelie says:

Ha! I hope I’m that cool when I become a librarian. Also, I’m surprised no one else has mentioned it but the beginning text is a Doctor Who reference. Awesome and geeky, how much better can you get?

  14. quichepup says:

I sent this link to my son who is entering library school this fall. He should be so lucky.

  15. L' Te says:

Very impressive, Indeed … so many 2010 graduates – however, quite unfortunate that a 1992 MLS graduate, with over 12 years experience, remains unemployed. Yes … everyone loves a librarian, but no one wishes to support the libraries to employ them! Sorry for the bad news folks, but I just had to give a dose of – “reality check”.

  16. Kelley Archer says:

Yeah!  Go UW! Sorry had to give a shout out to my peeps.  Makes me want to to to the reading room and learn something.  I better sit down until that passes.

  17. loribl says:

I work in a library and LOVE this!  More, more, MORE!!!

  18. Heather says:

Holy cow! I went there. I had those professors. Full of win!

  19. MissFancy says:

    Go Huskies!!!

Hey, L’ Te, I feel for ya—but I’ve largely stopped using libraries since they have turned into community centers rather than the quiet, sacred places they once were.

I’ll go back when the movies are taken out, the interesting books are taken out of the stacks and put back into general circulation, and, most importantly, when librarians start shushing again.

Totally elitist, I know, but it’s pretty clear that lowering standards so as not to intimidate the illiterate hasn’t worked.  At all.  In any area of life.

  20. Sarah W says:

    Yes, librarians are that fabulous.

This actually makes me feel better about starting Sunday hours this weekend . . . even though there’s no chance of our van guys going shirtless, or bearing hot wings.

  21. Monica Burns says:

O-M-G I was watching this video, thinking this has to have been produced in CA or some other progressive (liberal leaning )state, because no Virginia library would EVER do something like this (seemingly liberal)!!! Then to find its Rappahannock! I’m happy feet here and so proud.

  22. Sarah says:

    OMG MY LIBRARIANS!

    AND MY LIBRARIES!!!!

It’s true and so much suck when they changed the hours.  Not to mention cutting money for getting classroom books.  They bent over backwards the bast 2 years helping me get enough copies for Treasure Island and the Count of Monte Cristo for my students outside the classroom.  Now they are SO MUCH COOLER.

And that book on hold?  Mine.  I have to go get it after school today! 🙂

  23. MicheleKS says:

I live right across the street from a branch library and that place is always packed. And it warms my heart to see it so busy and there is so much there for everyone- books, movies, computers and of course awesome librarians.

And it boils my blood to hear of budget cuts to libraries because in these sucky economic times more and more people need the library’s services. That’s why I try to support my library because if the powers-that-be see people using them then maybe they won’t cut their funding.

  24. Grace says:

Librarians are my heroes!!  That was so cool.  It made my morning.

  25. Sarah W says:

This is the short version, the longer one has a wicked funny first part about the crazy things librarians have to deal with and how much harder it is with little staff. I know it reflects the truth because I’m a librarian.

  26. readinginak says:

Love it! Especially love the shipping librarian with no shirts! Whoo-hoo! Our library budgets have been cut here and all the branches except the main one are closed on Mondays, which means I can’t go to the neighborhood library with my kid on my day off. Argh.

    Captcha: against57

I definitely have 57 reasons against library closures.

  27. Donna says:

Oh, I beg to differ, that book on hold is MINE, and I’ll be swinging through the drive through for it tonight. Anne Stuart’s Reckless. Happy Saturday to me!!

    Librarians ROCK!

  28. Oh, I love libraries! Love, love, love them. And librarians are my heroes. (Though I must see if we can persuade our library services guys up here north of the border to try that shirtless shipping thing… 🙂

  29. Francesca too says:

I have been a fan of US libraries since I moved here in the late sixties: I don’t think Americans realize what a wonder their libraries truly are.

  30. bookstorecat says:

There are no kittens, bunnies, puppies, or laughing babies, but this is somehow the cutest funny video I have seen for a long time.

I love my library for being my best source for free e-books to read on my lovely nook. Yeah Philly Free Library!

  31. Vixenbib says:

Delightful! However, I have to confess to feeling quite shocked at the sight of a librarian lady STANDING ON A TABLE!!!

Thank you all librarians and libraries across the world.  I feel that without the means to escape that my local library afforded me as a child, I could have suffered quite serious mental ill health.

  32. Vixenbib says:

    Correction:

    DANCING ON A LIBRARY TABLE

  33. Pickle says:

That is awesomesauce of the highest order.  My mom is a librarian, and I am a library addict.

I MUST send the URL for this to our local library ladies who are comprised of high percentages of awesomeness.

Thanks so much for sharing this!

spamword:  when98…..when 98% of the population uses the library there will be much win!

  34. Susan says:

My mom is also a librarian.  She says that librarians’ conventions are one big party, and you should lock up your husbands and sons when they come to town.  She’s just playing with my mind, right?

  35. Kristen A. says:

Well, there is something at least as awesome as this: librarians dancing with book carts to music from The Blues Brothers, with two of them in the appropriate costume.  Unfortunately this is probably not online yet; I saw it live this afternoon at staff training day.

Why yes, I am a pushover for anything Blues Brothers.

  36. Trippinoutmysoul says:

I was watching the video and thought to myself “hmm, that library looks familiar…” and at the end realized it’s my hometown library, where I got my first library card! I loved that place- my mom would take my brother and me every Friday after school and my brother would sulk because he knew my mom and me would take atleast 2 hours and leave with like 5 books each. This video was awesome, thanks for posting it 🙂

  37. Tiffany sale says:

even though there’s no chance of our van guys going shirtless, or bearing hot wings.

  38. Deanna says:

For your next video perhaps a parody of Project Runway? That white haired gentleman looks like Tim Gunn.  Thanks for the smiles!  Goodness knows we all need them about now.
