Why, yes, this IS why the internet was invented. Thanks, Robinjn!

  1. God bless the interwebs [wipes away a single tear].

  2. What’s funnier is that this cat must do this all the time or they wouldn’t have been able to get such a good video! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  3. Bonnie says:

    LOL!!!!  What a scream. ..

  4. Kara says:

Thanks for giving me a great laugh this morning!!!

  5. Bronte says:

sorry to be the dissenting voice of not finding that amusing but that is one seriously pissed off and itchy cat, he almost attacked the hand that teased and I kind of wish he had. If its not allergic to fleas I would be absolutely stunned.

  6. Tovah says:

It seems like the Friday videos never get as many comments as your other entries but I just wanted to let you know that I look forward to seeing what you find every week. The Old Spice commercials were the best thing I’d seen in a long time! Thanks for starting my morning off happily.

I’ve had two cats that did this type of thing when you scratched in front of their tail and neither had a fleas or a flea allergy (yes, I’ve had a cat with a flea allergy and would recognize it). They just really liked it. Mine did look a bit more obviously appreciative, and in the case of one orgasmic, than this cat did, but I still think it liked it more than you might think. It did get a lot more pissed looking when they stopped scratching.

I had one cat that made this a part of it’s nightly routine. It would lay on my stomach every night while I was reading in bed and I’d scratch it’s back while it gnawed on the spine of my book. She’d rub all over me and wouldn’t leave me alone until she got her nightly molesting, as we began to call it.

My sister has a cat that does the same thing but with less biting and more rocking. She puts sunglasses on it and tells everyone that it’s doing a Stevie Wonder impression. These folks thought it looked more like Trololo. Different strokes…

  8. Brandi says:

:47 made water come out of my eyes.

  9. KTT says:

Some cats and dogs have this, I don’t know, neurological crosswire or something and will do this automatic “flea-biting” behavior when a person scratches in a certain spot, usually at the tail.  A friend had a cat like this when I was growing up, and my current dog will flea-bite my arm or the furniture if I scratch the base of his tail.

  10. Tabithaz says:

You made me miss my kitty!  Stupid college rules . . .

  11. SheaLuna says:

    OMG, that was HILARIOUS!

Our dog used to do that.  If we scratched her in the right spot she’d do the flea chew AND thump her paw just like Thumper.  She loved it.  Both our cats had variations on the theme.  My cat would even bite me if I STOPPED! lol

  12. robinjn says:

As the submitter of the Trololo (because it made me laugh more every time I saw it) and a cat lover as well as a dog trainer who relies a lot on an ability to “read” dog and animals in general, this cat was not in pain. And yeah, he was annoyed….every time his owner stopped. It’s not like the cat was tied to the owner’s leg; he was splatted out there for his skritches and Lord Forfend the guy stop before he was darn good and ready! If he didn’t like it he could have left at any moment.

The dirty look the cat gives the owner at the very end is just priceless.

  13. beggar1015 says:

::sigh::  My previous cat (that died of cancer) would do this. If I was in front of him while scratching his sweet spot he could lick my nose until I stopped. The cat I have now, if she has a sweet spot I haven’t found it.

  14. Samanthadelayed says:

My Boyfriend is a HUGE fan of Trololo… and he really wants that cat too! LOL

  15. ocelott says:

My mom has a pair of cats with their own ticks like this.  One of her cats, if you scratch the right spot between his shoulderblades, he starts licking the air.  The faster you rub, the faster he licks.  He loves it!  The other one’s special spot is by the base of her tail, like the cat in the video, and she gnaws on her right front paw.  She doesn’t have fleas or ticks; she’s never been outside a day in her life and she never scratches or gnaws on herself at any other time.  But when you hit that magical place, that paw will get gnawed, and she will be SO MAD at you when you stop scratching.

  16. Kate Pearce says:

My cat Jasper who died last year was exactly like this-he kind of loved it, but hated it, because it made him writhe uncontrollably with joy, but he just couldn’t resist! LOL

  17. Alison says:

One of my cats, Isobel, does something similar. When the tongue starts to come out I know I’ve got the spot. She’s kind of anxious and doesn’t like being reduced to a vulnerable, drooling pile of mush, so she will let me know when enough’s enough.

  18. SusanL says:

I swear, this is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Yep, the only time that cat is unhappy is when it stops.

  19. OMG that was so funny *cries*. Oh, man. That’s why I lovez the kittehs. Totally reposting on my blog. Thanks for sharing!

  20. Suzannah says:

Memo to myself:  Close the office door *before* watching the Friday videos.  That way, the laughing can’t escape into the corridor.

And if anyone gets the option right at the end to watch Misery Bear, it’s fantastic.  There’s a whole series but the work one is excellent.  Not romantic, though.

  21. Thanks for my first laugh of the day!

(This video explains a lot, actually -LOL)

  22. OMG!!!!

My eyes are burning with tears because of this video. This is something my very possessive and demanding male cat would do, if he could!

  23. Dr. Zoidberg says:

So funny! And, my god, what a beautiful cat.

  24. tralalah says:

    Well, this explains things!

  25. Donna says:

    I knew it!!

  26. Anna says:

This is just one of the reasons it’s a good idea to charm the cat of the woman you’re seeing.

  27. OMG – This happened to me! Invited the cat-allergic future Mr. Richland and his best friend, who happens to be a rather finicky gentleman, to my apartment for a summer dinner. Salmon. Roasted potatoes. Nectarine blueberry pie. Covered the pie with clean dishtowel and set it on the counter while we enjoyed food and wine. At dessert time, we discovered my sweet tortoise-shell kitty, Muffin, had been enjoying a warm tuffet—sitting on my pie! Cat butt in pie! We decided that, because there had been a dishtowel between the two, we would proceed to eat the pie. (Perhaps much wine had been drunk, aiding that decision.) Everyone had two pieces, marriage occured a few years later, and finicky friend was the best man.

  28. Kelly S. says:

I’ve seen it before and it is AWESOME! Thanks for posting it.

  29. Lisa J says:

This is why I love my DOGS!  They’ve never tried to use my computer.

  30. OMG soooo funny. That really cheered me up. Cat 1 used to sick up hairballs under the bed at 3 am, and DH survived that.

    Mr Socks…LOL.

  31. JamiSings says:

SOOOOOOOOOOO glad I’m a dog person. Minnie would never do any of that stuff. Plus if I fart I can blame it on her.

  32. Maria says:

    Loved it. Thank you!

  33. Mitzi says:

My future husband is allergic to cats but decided to date me even though I have three. He’s getting less allergic the more he’s around them. But they (all neutered males) seem to be more possessive of me when he’s in my apartment. It’s wonderful having the attention of four handsome…uh…male creatures.
I sent the cat video to one of my single friends with five felines. She’s now watching for similar signs.

  34. AgTigress says:

I can’t say that I found the video funny at all: we all have different senses of humour.  The cat is a handsome specimen, though.
For those who remark, ‘my dog would never do that’;  even taking that in the non-literal sense intended (cats can’t actually use computers either!), it’s a questionable assertion.
Some dogs can be extremely possessive and jealous in relation to their favourite humans.  I think that canine and feline motivations in trying to block the introduction of new humans into their established homes tend to be slightly different.  Dogs are more likely to resent the personal relationship between their designated human and other humans, while cats are often more concerned about changes to the daily routines they have sometimes spent a long time establishing and enforcing on their human pet.  But both species can be equally clever and devious in the ways they devise for scaring off what they see as interlopers — even without the use of computers, writing and opposable thumbs.  And both are pragmatic enough to adapt to the inevitable, and eventually to train the new human to fit in properly, if they fail to frighten him off at an early stage.
    🙂

  35. HelenB says:

For cat fans try googling cat with thumbs – a great advert to put fear into cat owners.

  36. JamiSings says:

@Ag – Well, I know for a fact that while Minnie is possessive of me, she still wouldn’t do that. Being a former puppy mill breeder she tends to be extremely submissive and shy of other people. I’ve been trying to socialize her – most kids she’s willing to approach, but adults she tends to be scared of unless they have dogs with them.

  37. AgTigress says:

Well, I know for a fact that while Minnie is possessive of me, she still wouldn’t do that.

JamiSings:  it all depends on the individual cat or dog, and you know your dog, and what she would or would not do.  They differ just as much as people do, and one will not necessarily avoid the kind of behaviour parodied in the video simply by choosing to live with a dog rather than a cat.  Like us, dogs and cats may be timid in some respects, bold in others, rational about some things, obsessive about others…
My point was simply that it is not true to say that there is a cat/dog contrast when it comes to manipulative behaviour or expressions of jealousy, which I took to be the implication of your earlier post in this thread.  Although, as I have said, the precise motivations may differ in feline and canine minds, it is simply a fact that individual members of both species may exercise considerable effort and ingenuity in trying to influence their surroundings and their humans’ behaviour.
    🙂
