Kathleen Givens

Book CoverSad news: author Kathleen Givens passed away suddenly over the weekend. Givens wrote historical fiction for Pocket, and her most recent release was Rivals for the Crown.

Our condolences to her family and friends, and to her fellow writers from the Whine Sisters author blog. In the comments, many people are recalling the first time they met her. It seems Ms. Givens met so many people in lines, bathroom queues or at RWA conferences – clearly she was one of the friendly, warm and welcoming people you meet at writer conferences, the kind with whom you find an instant friend. What a sad, sad loss.

This is absolutely devastating news.  Kathleen did my library’s literary event last year – and she was simply wonderful.  Warm, intelligent, engaging – and she spoke very eloquently about her work in historical romantic fiction.  It was a lovely day, a lovely panel discussion on the romance genre, and it was a pleasure to work with her.

    Just awful, awful news…..

  2. I met Kathleen at an RWA conference. She sat next to my friend at the literacy booksigning. We adored her because she was so much fun & caught up with her at many other conferences. I remember how thrilled we were when she won the RITA. She was a delightful lady, and I’m deeply shocked by her death. I will always remember her kindness & encouragement. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

This is truly crushing news. I just found out about this now. I’ve been corresponding with her for a while because I love, love, love her books. She was such an intelligent, fun and talented woman. She has been one of my favorite authors ever since I read On a Highland Shore, one of the few keepers on my bookshelves. I am just heartbroken.

What sad news! I have really enjoyed three books by this talented author. On a Highland Shore which was an interesting Scottish medieval with a Viking theme that I considered to be historical fiction with decent romance. Kilgannon and Wild Rose of Kilgannon are a great two part first person romance set in 1700’s Scotland that I highly recommend, both books follow the same couple and are told from the heroine’s point of view.

    Kathleen Givens will be missed!

Kathy was a good friend of mine.  A wonderful, wonderful person. I cannot believe that she is gone.  A tragic, tragis loss for her friends and family.  It is too soon to miss her, we are still looking for her.  But she will be missed deeply.  She was loved.
    Sandy
