50% Off ALL eBooks at AllRomanceeBooks and OmniLit.com

Looking for an alternative to Amazon since Amazon has yanked Macmillan books due to price wars and the future of ebook prices with the announcement of the iPad after Macmillan signed with Apple to put its books in the ibookstore?

AllRomanceeBooks.com  and OmniLit.com have a special offer for you this weekend only. I kid you not: 50% off every title in the store this weekend only. NO REALLY. They may not have everything but boy howdy they’ve got a lot. Thank you, folks! Let’s go shopping, shall we?

The rules: You will receive 50% off on all titles purchased on AllRomanceeBooks.com and OmniLit.com through this weekend if they use the code SBTBARe1.

The discount will only appear once the code is entered in the shopping cart and the “Calculate Discount” button is selected. This offer expires at midnight 31 January 2010, 11:59 PM Mountain Standard Time.

And here’s a spiffy note from Lori James, CEO of AllRomanceeBooks: “We will be paying publishers based on the Full Retail price for this promotion, so the discount will not affect Publisher commissions or author royalties.” SAY WHAT!

Disclaimers: I’m not earning commission from these links, and I haven’t read every one of the titles and authors I mention. Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.

You ready? Let’s GO SHOPPING.

How about G.A. Aiken’s Dragon books? I confess to having a total squishy love for them. They’re like campy fairy tales with violence and fierce women and kickassingness everywhere. I even re-read them, which is rare for me.

If you’re in the mood for historical, check out Laura Kinsale’s Lessons in French. At half the price, that’s $3.49. Want some knit-kit? Spinning Forward by Terri DuLong is available and half off that book is some big savings. I haven’t read it but have heard lovely things about it. Craving mystery? Lori Armstrong’s new hardcover, No Mercy, is $25, or $12.50 with discount, and they have a ton of Charlaine Harris’ Shakespeare series featuring Lily Bard. (I loved the Shakespeare series. Talk about damaged heroine. Holy hell).

Curious about Rachel Vincent’s series? Both of them, from packs to banshees? Buy the whole set at half off. Wanted to check out the Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next series? Here’s a good chance to buy two where you might have only bought one. (I might as well be writing that paragraph to myself, yo).

And hey, some books are available to gift to other people, so if you’d like to spread the half-off lovin’ around, give someone a book this weekend. LOVE the gifting option.

Thank you to AllRomanceeBooks and OmniLit for offering the discount – this is way awesome.

So, whatcha buying?

Thanks for this generous sale Lori! Having shopped in your book store before, the experience is very quick & easy. I really appreciate that. And thanks for the coupon!

Smart shopping, I preordered (in addition to several current released other books) the the new Jill Shalvis & Madeline Hunter. Looking forward to those.

    Thanks again Lori!

  2. Joy says:

Thanks Lori (and Sarah)!  I’d never purchased anything from ARe or Omni before but have purchased 25 books in the past two days.  My Sony is very happy.

  3. Okay, this may be considered pimping my article, but yesterday I wrote an article about the Amazon/Macmillan dispute. http://bit.ly/amazonpullsbooks
I’m posting this only b/c I thought some of you might be interested in a comment about the “attack” by Macmillan and it’s “tyranny” and the “greed” of the publishers.
I can’t say what I really want to “eBook Resistance”, the commenter, since I wrote the article. 🙂

Thanks, Lori, for being so quick, I just downloaded the working version of the book!

(i will not buy more books i will not buy more books)

question for the kinda newbie- how do I know if it’s DRMed? I know I bought one book that Calibre wouldn’t convert, but I just opened my Kindle folder on my computer, and dragged the file into it, and it read it fine.

word line72- if I’m not careful, I’ll be in line with 72 books or spending 72 bucks on books.

  5. Melissa G says:

Thanks for the heads-up, Lori. Will go back to get my buy 10-get 1 free code. I bought enough yesterday, I might have qualified twice…

I also sent in an email to customer service. ONly had one problem with downloads and that was with Boneshaker, by Cherie Priest. Listing showed Adobe ebook and epub formats, but once I went to click thru and download the file I received an error message that the item wasn’t available.

  6. Ahlison says:

    Pre-order???  I can pre-order???? Heading back to omnilit…

This is a great deal, but the sites (both of them) are AGONIZINGLY slow.  Like more than 5 minutes to load a page kind of slow.  Don’t have the time to sit in front of the computer, sadly, so I think I’m going to miss out on this one…..and I was really looking forward to the Kinsale!
    Ironically, my spamword is “long82”

  8. Ooh, high time for baby’s first Kinsale. Um, the baby being me, not an actual baby. Don’t worry. Plus I may buy The Viking’s Captive Princess, as my husband’s convinced he’s chock full of Norse lineage (when really he’s just got a powerful beard.)

Sites are slow, though—I feel like I’m on page 325 and still waiting for the bed scene. Fingers crossed it’ll be worth it.

  9. Lori James says:

    @diremommy

How do you know if the file has DRM applied? If it says “secure” in front of it – Secure Adobe, Secure ePub, Secure Mobipocket, etc. Otherwise it should be open format.

A big you are welcome to all those sending thanks to me and ARe’s co-owner, Barbara Perfett. But this wouldn’t have happened without Sarah and all of the folks who have been working this weekend – John, Cat, Julie and Digimonkey. Poor Digi has had to reset our server more than once.

As you can imagine, the traffic has been HUGE this weekend. Hence the periods of slowness. In addition to the customers, we have a number of very happy publishers who can’t seem to resist checking their sales data (and I can’t blame them). We appreciate your patience and all of the kind words. This is a great lead in to our big 28 Days of Heart Campaign and series release.

    @Ahlison

Yes you can pre-order and all of the 28 Days of Heart Novellas are available now. You can click on the banner at the top of the website and browse the series. Proceeds are going to the America Heart Association. The Foreword was written by the fabulous Charlaine Harris. The books themselves from best-selling and up-and-coming authors. And today the series is 50% off!

I’m not interested in the comments but your article sucks.

“It seems Macmillan, along with many other publishers are unhappy with Amazon’s $9.99 e-book pricing and have asked the colossal online book seller to raise the prices.”

Asked to raise prices?  Are you kidding me?  They TOLD Amazon that they’ll sell Macmillan ebooks at the price they decide or they’ll punish them by not allowing their new releases on the Kindle.  Amazon rightly told them to go fuck themselves and the horse they rode in on.

Macmillan can sell their products to Amazon for whatever price they want to and in turn Amazon can sell those products for whatever freaking price they want to—even taking a loss as they’ve been doing.  Macmillan screwed themselves by not realizing Amazon wasn’t just going to bend over and take whatever shitty deal Macmillan offered just to keep their books on the Kindle.  Their shop, their rules and they’ll do just fine without Macmillan—can Macmillan and their authors say the same?

  11. Meliss says:

Thank youuuuuuuuuuu—or, y’know, not, given the final total in the shopping cart. *g* I ended up with a bunch of Heyers, and some Kleypas and Shalvis representing for the contemporaries, and Tere Michaels for the m/m angle.

  12. Woo-hoo!  Just got all my choices for 20 buckeroos.  Wolf Hall, two volumes of 1001 Arabian Nights, and three books from the 28 Days of Heart promotion (so I’m getting entertained and helping the American Heart Association!)

If anyone is looking for a mystical romp with a genie and lots of heart, check out ANGELS & GENIES.

Thanks Smart Bitches & OmniLit/All Romance eBooks!!!

Just did a little Sunday shopping and spent $10.99 for four books. Also downloaded six free books.  Thanks SB!!

  14. Tabetha,
I’m sorry you thought my article “sucked”. I personally thought it was very written. I won’t bother to argue w/you, especially via this forum. I will say that you seem to be missing the point that both readers and authors are getting hurt by this.

This sale coincided perfectly with a huge snowstorm in Nashville. I spent so much on books, but they’re all a great deal and helped to pass the time. Thanks!!

  17. Carin says:

Thanks for this!  I bought a bunch of books – Sarah Mayberry’s backlist (wonderful contemporaries!) and Nalini Singh’s early books I haven’t read yet.  There was so much to choose from.  And now I’ve got a free book credit to use.  ARe rocks!

  18. Becky says:

    @ Lori James

Out of pure curiosity, are there any stats you can share with us about how it went this weekend?  I know things were still rockin’ at 10 o’clock last night, because I had a heck of a time getting on to buy a last couple of books.

  19. joykenn says:

I have a Kindle and I haven’t been able to buy from these dealers since there are so few non-DRM Mobi versions available.  I downloaded Calibre but haven’t been able to take DRM protected books, convert them and load them onto my Kindle. Sigh!  and I’m ususually pretty techie.  I HATE, HATE, HATE DRM!  Don’t these companies realize that they’ve lost sales—and not just of these books on sale.  Becky above had 32 books picked out but only 3 were non-DRM.  Me, I don’t even bother looking at these sites any more.  I’ll just take my money elsewhere or wait until I can crack the DRM FOR THE BOOKS I”M WILLING TO BUY!!!  Gosh they make it hard for those of us you have no intension of stealing books when thieves probably have it all figured out how to get around DRM.  [Hey the word is soviet72—that’s what it feels like with this DRM shit!]

@joykeen – I just want to make sure you know that DRM is a publisher requirement – not the ebook stores.  I also hate DRM but held my nose as I bought books this weekend in secure ePub.

  21. Carly says:

Thanks for this! I got a couple Samhain novellas that I’d had on my wishlist for a while, Courtney Milan’s “Proof by Seduction.” Can’t wait for the commute reading.

  22. Susan Chambers says:

Wow!  I just bought 13 books for under 15 bucks from All Romance and FictionWise.  That includes 6 free from FictionWise by using rewards credit.  I searched for mostly older titles that were not “secure”.  Those can be more of a hassle.

  23. Lisa A says:

Thanks for the awesomesause Sarah and Lori. I’d been teetering on the brink of buying myself a reader, and the 50% off sale tipped the scales.  (Ew, mixed metaphor.)

I’m now the drooling owner of a dazzling red Sony Touch, which is happily loaded with books and short stories from All Romance.

Among other things, I snagged all of Jill Shalvis’s stuff that’s still only available at trade paperback prices, 😀 No more waiting for that fix!

Thanks again! You ladies made my weekend!

Just read G.A Aiken’s “What a Dragon Should Know” – SOOO good. if you like dragons, wow, you’ll be happy.
