I’m frightened by how fast I took advantage of that offer—six books purchased in 30 seconds flat. Thanks for the heads up!

  2. Fictionwise is having a massive, and I mean MASSIVE, end of year sale: all DRM books are 40 to 60 percent on rebate, and all their DRM-free books are 40 to 60 percent off. I plan to be making a surgical strike on my Fictionwise wish list very soon. 😉

Also, my own l’il ol’ publisher, Drollerie Press, has all books at 15 percent off this month!

  3. And oh yes: relevant to the Interests of this site, I should also note that a few of my publisher’s books swing towards romance, and also that Fictionwise carries us. So I’d like to heartily recommend my fellow Drollerie author Cindy Lynn Speer and her book The Chocolatier’s Wife, which is a lovely little blend of fantasy, romance, and murder mystery. And Joely Sue Burkhart’s got some fun in Beautiful Death, which is more romantic SF with a heavy dollop of Greek mythology and a darker flavor to the story.

Y’all should totally go check both of these books out. You can get them both super-cheap on Fictionwise right now, for around three dollars. 🙂

I don’t read much Harlequin these days.  Can anyone recommend a few good titles?

Did any of you catch the news update that Simon & Shuster and other large NY publishers are implementing a ebook policy (upset at the 9.99 price for new fiction on Amazon, etc.) that they’ll only release ebook version 4-6 months after hardcover but before the paperback.  Is this the same kind of restrictive policy that got folks pirating music?  Corporate greed plus technology equals priracy.  Believe me I’m not paying high prices for a product only I can legally use on only one device.  With a hardback or paperback I can give it to a friend, loan it to someone, donate it to the library or re-sell it to a used book store.  Digital brings none of those legitimate rights so its less valuable to me.  Simple economics.  One book on one device for one person equals less value that item can give away, loan or sell.  How come they don’t get that?

Off the top of my head for the recommendations:

    Ellen Hartman: Plan-B, Boyfriend
    Anything Sarah Mayberry
Maya Banks’ Tycoon’s oh crap what’s the title. Tycoon’s Rebel Bride! Sorry. Had to look it up.

I’ll keep looking back over my recent reads and see what else there is.

    Thanks. What a great deal!

  9. Kwana says:

Sarah I’ve never downloaded from Harlequin. Which format should I use for my Sony? Thanks.

  10. emmanuelle jappont says:

Thanks you !!! Just baught 4 books for 11 bucks !

  11. Collette says:

Kwana, you want the Adobe PDF version.  Neither of the other versions will work but the PDF works just fine.  (I have a 505 and I use the PDF from HQ all the time.)

  12. Tamar says:

Anyone know what format I should use?  Or indeed if I can?  I’m on a Mac, reading on an iPhone.  Will eReader or Kindle (or Stanza, I guess) on the iPhone support the PDA mobi version that eHarlequin uses?  And can I download straight to the device?  Ack!  Hate this tangle of reader software issues.

  13. Kwana says:

    Thank you Collette!

  14. Ros says:

Thanks for the heads up on the code.  I was slightly bemused to get to checkout and be told ‘Enjoy 50% off (that’s an extra 40% off the ePrice)!’  In ebook world, is 50% miraculously the same as 40%?  Admittedly, there’s only a few cents in it, so I’m not really complaining, just curious.

  15. Collette says:

    Kwana, you’re quite welcome!

Ros, I actually emailed them about this and they told me that the 50% came off of ePrice instead of Our Price.  I was disappointed because one of the Sarah Mayberry books was already discounted and I was salivating at the thought of getting it for an additional half off.  I did suggest to them that how the discount is applied be clarified on future offers since it’s pretty natural to assume that the 50% comes off of their price.  They thanked me for the input (and replied quite quickly to both emails which was lovely) so we’ll see I guess.

  16. Tamar—I don’t know what’s available on Harlequin for download filetypes, but I use Stanza on my Pod, and download HTML files for it. I hope that’s an option.

  17. RebeccaJ says:

Hmm, I purchased two books for a total of $5.40 but when I took off the “half off” coupon, it only took off ninety cents. I guess I thought “half off” meant “half off”:)

  18. Kristi says:

Just a chime in on if anyone knows which format I should buy to use on my iPhone? I have the Kindle app but I’m sure I can somehow read with something else?

Any help? Lost83 is the word, how appropriate.

Thanks for the update! I will be buying tonight when the kids are in bed!

  19. For those of you with iPhones, to the best of my knowledge it is possible to get a mobi file into the Kindle app, but it’s difficult if you are not technically inclined. A safer bet would be to get something that talks to Stanza, since Stanza talks to quite a few more formats.

However if you go for PDFs be careful because Stanza tends to NOT handle PDFs well in my experience. I’ve been using an app called GoodReader to read PDFs instead.

I would recommend checking Harlequin’s help pages to see if they get specific about what formats they sell for iPhone users. I’ll check when I get home—my own iPhone is having trouble loading the page!

If anyone needs more in depth pointers on ebooks on the iPhone feel free to email me. I’m annathepiper on gmail.

  20. iPhone addendum. Poking around on their Help page I see that the options are basically Adobe PDF, Microsoft, and Mobi. Here’s the thing though. iPhone users aren’t getting any of these formats onto the device without jumping through some technical hoops. Ordinarily I would say go for the PDF except that Adobe Digital Editions does NOT talk to the iPhone; I’ve tried this with mine and as far as I know there is no iPhone support yet. You could still get a PDF and read it on your computer but you wouldn’t be able to easily get it onto the phone.

Basically unless you have enough technical savvy to strip DRM off a file Harlequin’s set of formats don’t look useful to iPhone users. Me, I’d recommend going over to Fictionwise instead and looking for interesting titles instead—their sale is lasting all month and they do have an app for the iPhone. The Stanza-specific Fictionwise store also has a big rewards program going on this month so you could check there too and pull stuff right down into Stanza with no muss or fuss. 🙂
