My Big Fat Schmaltzy Thank You Note

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you embarking upon Turkey Coma today in the US, and for the rest of the world who might be receiving a satellite feed of our other Thanksgiving tradition, namely: a whole lot of American football. In past years I’ve written about why I’m thankful for romance, and why particular authors have made a difference in the lives of so many readers.

Today I’d like to say thank you to you. You, reading this page. Hi, there! Thank you! This year has been a huge massive one for a whole lot of reasons. This year we released a book, and traveled all over the US and into Canada promoting the book and our website and our unlimited love for excellent romance. We’ve been welcomed into your communities in Toronto, Durham, Doylestown, Seattle, Portland, Boonsboro, New York, Des Moines and Carroll, among others, and we’ve met so many romance readers who gleefully told us how much they enjoy our site, and our book, and the fact that finally, they have places online to go to talk romance with other smart romance readers. Meeting romance readers who were as enthusiastic and joyous about romance as I am was definitely the best part of book travel.

Since then, we’ve been featured in a lot of different publications – ones we never expected, from People to Marie Claire to The New Yorker to the Daily News to Publishers Weekly. Through that incredible exposure, more readers have discovered our site and other blogs that welcome romance readers and fans of the genre. There’s nothing like receiving an email that says, “I am so thankful I found you! And there are all these sites just about romance novels? I had no idea you existed. THANK YOU.”

No, really, thank you. Thank you for coming to the site and reading, whether you lurk or comment daily. Thank you for emailing me privately to talk about an issue, and for coming back to see what’s new and what’s happened since your last visit. Thank you for sending me absolutely absurd covers or stock images that have been used so often they qualify for AARP membership. Thanks for the book recommendations, the website links, the awesome Friday video submissions, the jokes, and the email messages about how much you disagree with my review. Thank you for every part of the reminder that there are so many amazing, smart, clever readers of romance out there, and thank you for the joy and pleasure of meeting you here. Happy thanksgiving, and many, many happily ever afters.

Thank you SB’s for being so witty and cool and honest (and the Bitchery for the same).

And a private, selfish thank you for setting me up with my little love machine, Miss Scarlett (my e-reader).

I know the book tour is over, but when are you making a trip to Chicago so I can meet you, share a drink and ask you to sign my Bosoms? 😉

  6. At long last, a site for smart romance readers.  I’m just glad there’s a place where we can groan together.  Keep it coming, ladies!

  7. Lil' Deviant says:

Happy Thanksgiving,SBs-one of the things I’m grateful for this year is getting the chance to meet Sarah at last May’s BEA and her coolness in signing my copy of Beyond Heaving Bosoms(which is listed as one of the best books of the year at my blog). Also grateful for this site, which has covered many topics that relate to many other genres in the publishing world.

Oh,and we must not forget the man titty-what would our live be without it? A vast wasteland of despair, that’s what!:)

Oh no…thank you! Two weeks ago, a fellow preschool mom pulled me aside and told me about this site. I pulled it up and laughed until I woke my children from their naps. I even made my husband read the Chachbag saga. You ladies are brilliant and hilarious. And there is the book to search out. Christmas came early.

I’m a lurker, and just wanted to thank YOU for being so witty, entertaining and thoughtful. I enjoy your blog and the comments from fellow readers so much – everyone is so passionate about reading and writing romance and it’s awesome! I’ve been turned on to several new books and authors thanks to your site and I’m very thankful and appreciative.

Hope everybody has a fantastic holiday!

say73: I’d say 73 more good things about the blog but have to go attend to my turkey now 🙂

  20. Tina C. says:

Happy Thanksgiving to all of us that celebrate it.  I hope your dinners turn out great and the family arguments are only over who gets the last roll.  Happy Thursday to everyone else.  As for what I’m thankful for (aside from the usual health, family, having a job, etc), I’m thankful I found this great place where people talk about romance and the industry in an intelligent way and frequently make me laugh out loud.  I’m thankful that I’ve gotten to interact with all you crazy people and that I’ve gotten to review (and buy cheap, woo-hoo!!) a Sony Reader and that I’ve even had a couple of reviews posted here.  I’m thankful that Sarah is so prolific with the posts and still finds time to answer emails.  I’m thankful for cover snark and cool contests.  I’m thankful that my pie turned out pretty damned well.  Oh, that last one doesn’t have anything to do with this place, but still…  So anyway, thank you all, but especially thank you Sarah and Candy for this awesome site that I get to visit every day!

…off to start the mashed potatoes!

  21. Cat Marsters says:

I’m thankful that a) I have an excuse to make pumpkin bread, and that b) there is no televised American football in my house.

  22. Bonnie says:

Thank you Smart Bitches for all the laughs and fabulously interesting information you’ve given us over the years.

And, I’m thankful that I do have American football on the air, but I can avoid it and watch any trashy movie I want to.  😀

Life is good and I’m full.  ***burp***

  23. scribblingirl says:

I honestly believe that when you read your first Romance novel, you have just crossed that rite of passage into becoming a Romance reader for life.  I just want to say “Thank You” for having such a wonderful website and for reminding me that if it wasn’t for this genre, I wouldn’t have found so many wonderful authors in this and other genres.
    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

  24. Gennita Low says:

Just dropping by to wish you and Candy a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

  25. Cher Gorman says:

I must admit I’m a recent convert to Smart Bitches Trashy Books.  I resisted at first because hardly any romance author received a grade above a “C”.  I didn’t understand why those authors who received the “C” came here again and again.  I think I understand now.  Of course you haven’t reviewed one of my books….

  26. Sarah says:

Hi all, I have only been visiting your site for the last month and a half after reading about you in my local paper “The Age”.  I can’t remember what the article was about but was able to remember the very catchy website name and so a couple of weeks after reading the article I was on the internet and thought “I’‘ll have a quick look at that site, just to see what it’s about”.  3 hours later mum came home and told me to get off the dammed computer and start the dinner I promised would be finished by the time she got home from work.  I have been hooked ever since.  I would like to give thanks for the fact that we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia (no offense intended) because I have enough pandemonium in my house celebrating Christmas, I couldn’t handle another big day of cooking, eating and then cleaning up.  I’m not exactly sure which day Thanksgiving was but I hope you all had a good one and have a Happy Christmas as well.

  27. Thank you right back!

  28. RandomRanter says:

Aw, thanks so much to you guys for providing such a nice blog space to hang out in. (And a book.  And all the rest of the fun.)
