Free Short Story from Lisa Kleypas

Book CoverThere’s a free PDF short story afoot, from what I hear from E. Have a wander over here and register to download the Kleypas short story “A Hathaway Wedding.”

I’m hoping it’s an actual story and not a chapter like the Lora Leigh giveaway a few months back.

It appears you have to check one of the subscription boxes in order to get the story.  Fine by me, but FYI.

  2. Madd says:

It’s a full on short story. I liked it fine, but it seemed a bit busy with the other characters. It’s better if you’ve read Seduce Me at Sunrise.

  3. RebeccaA says:

It’s like an epilogue to Seduce Me at Sunrise.

Not to look a gift Kleypas in the mouth, but I do wish she’d have focused a little on Poppy, especially since her book is up next (pre-ordered, yeah!) and she still seems to be the least developed of all the characters to me.  I agree with Madd, it did get to be kind of a clusterfuck, especially if you’ve never read SMAS.  I adore the Hathaways, but am I the only one who thinks it might get kind of unwieldy towards the end of the series, with all five siblings plus their spouses plus their kids plus all the Gypsies from the tribe plus the occasional appearance of a Wallflower or two?  I love that they’re all a part of the same world, but wow 😉

I do like what she’s doing with Beatrix, giving her a slightly darker edge.  She’s still a little girl in the sense that she has conversations with animals, but I detected an interesting dollop of cynicism and deeper issues that I can’t wait for Kleypas to explore.  I doubt our Beatrix is going to be all sweetness and light.

I started reading it and gave up in annoyance half-way through and i’ve read the previous two books.  I thought it was boring as hell, just a way to stick all previous couples in and allow them some nookie.

ARGH!!!! I didn’t see the age requirement. Now they think that I’m too young-at 58!!!

  7. vivi says:

I guess I am in the minority, but I loved it!  There is some really funny dialogue in the story.  I didn’t mind the chaos of all of the characters.  They are the Hathaways, chaos should reign.  Less than two weeks and counting for Poppy’s book!

  8. EmilyV says:

I liked it too! But I also worship the ground that Lisa Kleypas walks on….to me that woman can do no wrong….

  9. Robin says:

I am all about Kleypas’s contemps now, and what I’m wondering is whether she’s planning on writing another Travis book anytime soon (Joe’s story is still available). Oh, how demanding we readers can be!

  10. Elaine C. says:

I wurv Kleypas, and was happy for some filler before Poppy’s story comes out! Yeah!! Now I want to go re-read some of her older ones . . .Devil in Winter is calling my name 🙂

  11. Meg says:

I really do need to try her contemporaries, but 1) I’m not a big contemporaries gal to begin with and 2) something about romances written in the first person (especially if it’s from the heroine’s perspective) turn me off.  Why is that, I wonder?

    Probably some deep-seated psychological issue.
