Sure, it’s the location of Harlequin HQ, and it has the most fascinating recycling program I’ve ever seen, but wow: a Romance Writer in Residence program at the public library?
I have swooned. (Eh?)

OMG…I am swooning with Library Envy! The Toronto Public Library is made of awesome – clearly, they recognize what’s important. The world needs all the HEA’s it can get.
It’s awesome, eh? 😉 I’ve signed up for the November event, I think it will be cool. I’ll have to ask them when they came up with the idea for this, I don’t know if TPL’s done it before.
Because you’re crazy! lol montreal quebec is way bettter!!!! its funny because many americans love toronto but most of Canada doesn’t like toronto.
Ashley, I don’t agree that most Canadians don’t like Toronto! I think we just get a little envious of it at times—although not in the winter. LOL
And I think what they’ve done with the library Romance Writer in Residence program is fabulous. Even more fabulous is that they’ve chosen Deborah Cooke for this honor. She’s talented, smart, professional and incredibly informed about our industry. Go, Deborah, go!
Oh. My gosh.
MAJOR library envy here. I must become a Canadian. Now.
I didn’t even know about this program, and I’m a member of the TPL. Thanks for letting me know, I’m no romance writer but this is a fantastic idea!
This sounds like a fantastic program. As a public librarian, I’m totally jealous that they were able to do such a cool program. Unfortunately for us, our programming budget is not that big & usually goes for children’s programs first. So unless the author is donating her time, we couldn’t swing this kind of program 🙁
Lived most of my life in Toronto… We are the very best..
Exactly what popped into my head when I read it. Is she getting any renumeration, or just publicity for her classes? Where is the TPL getting the funding for this position? It’s AWESOME! And should be duplicated all across Canada. I’m just kind of suspicious, given the Harper Hates The Arts trend in funding.
I don’t know how it’s being funded, either, that’s why I wondered if this was a regular occurrence at the library. It is only a two month position, so that’s possibly why they were able to have it. And North York is one of the largest of TPL’s 99 branches, so they possibly have a larger budget than most. Maybe she’ll talk about it at the October 3rd event, which I don’t think I can attend.
hmm i have heard that much of Canada does not like toronto. maybe its just hype
