Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Makeover Romance!

Denise writes:

I’m looking for the a keeper that got away. This is what I remember. The heroine was going to her high school reunion and wanted to show her former classmates that she was no longer the plain jane, smart girl who gets car sick (she now writes computer manuals for a living) She gets a makeover and invents a fiancee named Brad. She gets a ride home from her sister Meg’s old boyfriend who she had a crush on when she was a teen. The ex boyfriend was a marine capt named Benson. Capt Benson’s nickname for the herione was “spot”. During the ride home to the reunion and the days leading up to the reunion the the hero (Benson) falls in love with the herorine but she doesn’t believe him because he doesn’t know the real her only the new and improved version of herself. He finally convinces her, proposes at the reunion…..they marry and have a baby girl.

Additional info. The heroine could not see without her glasses/contacts, and was very accident prone. Heroine’s sister’s name was Meg…married to John and they had a bunch of kids. I think it was a Harlequin Book

I have to admit – I’m a sucker for makeover stories. Anyone remember this one?

I was thinking one of the Donna Kauffman Cinderella books, but I’m pretty sure I’m wrong, because it seems that in that one she hits on the guy she had a crush on, but then discovers that her nerdy best friend is a lot hotter.

Yeah, I have the Kauffman book, that was “Sleeping With Beauty” and that’s not it.  She’s a teacher, who wants to be hot for the reunion because of her miserable high school days.  Those of you who love a “fall for your best friend” story would like it, it’s pretty enjoyable.

I don’t think I’ve read the book she’s looking for.

I have no idea but the description is making me laugh. Oh yeah, former Miss Plain Jane is a total badass now! SHE WRITES COMPUTER MANUALS!!

These hot makeover for the high school reunion stories sound awesome and make me so annoyed I went to an all-girls high school. It’s really difficult for me to imagine myself impressing secret high school crush at our reunion this fall with my newly acquired sophistication and loveliness when, you know, he never existed.

Word verification Old99: Freaky. I do feel slightly old going to the ten year reunion of the class of ‘99.

I finally can help out.  I think it is Mom in Waiting by Maureen Child
It is on my keeper shelf. However, I think the book is misnamed.

I’m pretty sure Lynn’s got it. I read this book a while back, but I also could not remember the name. I think it’s because the title is just so weird, but then most of Maureen Child’s books seem to have odd titles. Like Baby Bonanza. Makes me think there’s some sort of baby sale or give away going on.
