Brenda Novak Auction: Damn, That is Some Money

From Brenda Novak’s assistant comes word that the 2009 Diabetes Auction raised $270,611: “That’s more than last year and it puts us on track to break the 1 million mark in 2010.” According to Novak’s auction page on her website, in five years the auction has raised $770,611 for diabetes research. Way to go!

I am such a big fan of Novak’s auction, and the time and effort that must go into the event is extraordinary. Kudos to Brenda and her assistant Anna, and to everyone who donated. This year, Smart Bitches donated an adspace and an interview, both of which raised an astonishing amount of money. I’m pondering what we can donate next year- any ideas of something you’d like to see or potentially bid on? Let me know.

$1 million raised by 2010? Bring it on.

Wonderful news! Maybe you should auction guest blog posts on their blogs next year?

I’m in awe of Brenda Novaks’ high standards and conduct regarding how to run a charitable endeavor. She states clearly how the money raised is used and I can’t begin to imagine the number of hours she dedicates to the diabetes auction.  More applause for those who donate items and then pay for the postage to mail them.  It’s a wonderful effort and gets well-deserved results.

Next year: East and/or West Coast lunch with a Smart Bitch?

    Congratulations to everyone involved.

Ooh, I like the idea of lunch, especially if it’s a time when both Candy and I are together. Epic fun, with food. And Candy is an epic foodie so the eatin’ would be damn good.

Hell, I should make her cook. Mwaaahahahahahaa.

    I’m a fairly new author, but I donated a contest critique because… well… um… Okay, I’m a major contest diva.

I was just hoping to help Brenda out a little.  I cannot believe how much people were willing to pay for my critique.  Amazing.  Diabetes has touched my family, and I felt like this was a way to help.  A big thanks to Brenda and her staff for all their hard work.

  7. Agreed. Brenda is the high priestess of cool and classy. I love her and I’m always happy to contribute. I drooled over some of the bid events, such as the London getaway but alas, it wasn’t in my budget. Still, I love how people jump on board for this wonderful cause.

  8. I donated the “Stormy Night” gift basket and was frankly thrilled to see people actually bid on it!  I’m a new author whose debut novel was just released in March and although Brenda was gracious and accepted my offer to donate a prize, I was privately worried that no one would bid for it.

I’m so proud to have been a participant of this auction, on both the prize donation and the bidding sides!
