Iowa

This evening, I travel to Iowa. Seriously, I am so excited. Not only because this means six states in 48 hours, but because it’s Iowa! Where much awesomeness will happen!

First, on 19

August

May (oy!), I’m taping a show called Metro Woman, talking about romance novels, summer reading, and how smart women read romance. Then, at 7pm, I’ll be at the Carroll Public Library

Then, on 20 May, it’s on to Des Moines, where at 6pm I’ll be at the Des Moines Social Club to celebrate romance reading, Heaving Bosoms, and a general gathering of any and all fans of Smart Bitches and Dear Author who can make the trip down to Des Moines. I know Katie of YoungLibrarian is planning on being there, as is Nicole of BlogHappy, so come find us – we’ll be at the bar.

Then, on 6 June, after a really long nap, I’ll be in Durham, North Carolina, at the Barnes and Noble booksellers at an event co-hosted by the Durham public library.

But first, Iowa! Bosom travel ahoy! Hope to see you there.

Wait till you see the capital dome. It’s the gaudiest, glitteriest, thing; it definitely needs a romance novel of its very own. Trust me. You’ll see.

Seriously, it’s a great time of the year to visit the midwest. Green! Young corn! Green wheat! The wild roses are blooming and so is pretty much everything else.

If Des Moines wasn’t four hours away I’d come.

  2. Hmm. How far is Des Moines from Sandusky, OH? Still not too clear on midwestern geography. Have a great trip! Sounds like a blast.

    First, on 19 August…
    Then, on 20 May…
    Then, on 6 June…

So that is August 19th, 2009, followed by May and June dates in 2010?

  4. Ulrike says:

I think I can actually make it. I’m so excited!

You just said the magic words “Durham, NC”.  Any other stops in NC?

  6. Hydecat says:

    Durham! Awesome!

Hey, KindleBoards is having a discussion on clinch covers, and quote a small passage from “The Book:”

Everybody there is nice, but I bristled a little at the aroma of “silly women with their silly Fabio covers” that was scenting the discussion.

  9. MichelleR says:

Wow, and that was almost English.

This is so upsetting!  I just left Iowa!

  11. Diatryma says:

You could come to Iowa City.  We also have a Capitol!

  12. Maggie says:

I wish I could come! I live in Iowa but its about 4 hours from Des Moines.

  13. J L Wilson says:

What bad timing! I’ve been in Iowa each week for the past 3 weeks but this is the one where I won’t be there. Rats! Wanted to be there for the Bosom show and to meet the other attendees whom I follow on Twitter, etc.

ooh! if you have a car, you could get to Winterset and see the birthplace of John Wayne. Or just go to the lovely town park with it’s little tower folly thing on one of the paths. And one of the covered bridges. It really is a beautiful town.

With a tease like that, couldn’t resist the google. Oh. My.

All it needs is a statue of Fabio at the top of the dome, eh?

Iowa = surprisingly more interesting than I thought it would be. My cross-country road trip made me realize that I hadn’t given the middle of the country enough appreciation (I’ve always lived on either coast).

Random, I know. But there you have it.

  18. Iowa-one of the best kept secrets in this country ;))
Nice people, great food, exquisite sunsets, friendly small towns

I’ve lived on both sides of the state and the in the center and never tire of its seasons and beauty.

Welcome to Iowa and I am truly sorry I wont be able to make it to DES Moines this week! But I just saw you on the historical panel at RT and found it one of the best panels of the convention.
And I’m the convention workshop director.;)

    Safe travel and enjoy Iowa!

  19. It was a pleasure to have you visit us in Carroll! You did a fantastic job! I will make sure all your bloggers can view the episode! Thanks again & it was great to meet you! I should be producing a show for you called “Take in the Trash!” 🙂

You’re visiting Iowa (the actual center of the known universe) and skipping CHICAGO, where many of the savviest members of the Eternal Bitchery live? A city that boasts two of the most awesome RWA chapters (Chicago-North and Windy City)? How CAN you?

antispam: followed 56. Yes. Iowa followed by Chicago. Be there. Aloha.

  21. Nik says:

Oh noes!  The 6th of June just happens to be the day I’ll be travelling from New Jersey back home to central NC.  *pouts*
