St. Martin’s Offers Free Lora Leigh Short Story

Book CoverIf you head on over to Lora Leigh’s page on Macmillan’s website, there’s a place to sign up and receive a free, never-before-published short story from her Elite Ops series.

You do have to opt-in to the Lora Leigh newsletter from Macmillan but a free short story to promote her next book, Maverick, due out next month, is a smarty pants idea. I for one am a little intimidated by intricate military-based series that are already in progress, especially from an author I haven’t read, so having a short story to try the writer and the series out is just awesome sauce. Thanks, St. Martin!

ETA: Hold the phone here, Martin. Is this a PDF that I can only read online? Hm, no. It’s a PDF with DRM but I have been able to save it. DRM blows, Martin. I’ll buy you wine and tell you why. Call me.

ETA: NOW WAIT JUST A GODDAM MINUTE. This isn’t a short story! This is a chapter! A tease! A written trailer that has no story arc, no resolution, nothing resembling a “short story.” The only thing it is? SHORT. And a waste of my time. FAIL!

TY for the 411… signed up for the freebie. 🙂

  2. Jess says:

Did you like the short story?

  3. Samantha says:

The first story in the series is actually in an anthology Honk if You Love Real Men. I liked that having a little taste of the series to see if I liked it before jumping in since I already knew I liked Lora Leigh, been reading her others series for a while now.

You should read Lora Leigh if you get a chance.  She’s probably in my top three erotic romance writers (and probably makes my top ten overall romance writers; at the very least, top 20)—very consistent and has grown as an author since her debut at EC.  She’s one of the few that I will pay retail for the books when they first come out instead of waiting to find at the used, etc, and one of the few romance writers that I will pay over $10 for.

I have read her books too and really enjoyed them and I won’t say no to a freebie either! I signed up for it, let’s see how long it takes to get it.

    Oops, it’ here! LOL

Re: Samantha.  The first story of Lora Leigh’s Elite Ops series is Wild Card, released last month. You are talking about Reno’s Chance, the first novella in her Tempting SEALS series.  Both are great though as are all of her stuff.  I admit I need a 12 step program when it comes to Lora Leigh.

  7. she_reads says:

i just enjoyed my first tempting seals book (YUM!) and i look forward to getting into more with her. I like the balance between erotic scenes and action that’s going on with her stuff.

    Thanks for the heads up!

  8. Samantha says:

@Talia : Yup but there’s a crossover character and to me that just extends the the series, ack I dunno how to do this without spoilers but the back story of Wild Card is the Tempting Seals set kinda. Did that make any sense? I’ve been awake 10 minutes and no coffee yet.

  9. Kaetrin says:

I usually like Lora Leigh but I’ve just finished Only Pleasure and I was a bit disappointed.

First (@ Martin): editing people! Have you not heard of a spell checker? I really detracts from the reading experience.

Second, the story itself wasn’t very good.  It seemed more like an attempt to find a way to link some hot sex from one scene to another.  Some of the conversation (including internal) didn’t make sense to me in the context of what I knew about the characters.  This was true for the bad guy too.  I think (for this character) it was because it was really obvious who he was, so putting some confusing thoughts in his little dialogue boxes made it seem like it could be someone else.  However, those thoughts didn’t really fit his character.

The Elite Ops/Tempting Seals novels are better, but I don’t think I will go out of my way to pay $ for future stories for a while…

  10. Jackie says:

I have enjoyed the LL books I have read in the past and just requested the short story.  I will getting the new book when I find it.  However, I am not a big fan of erotica.  I am in it for the Seals and the suspense.
