Links, News, and a Giveaway

I think Marjorie M. Liu has probably been doing the pee pee dance with excitement at this weekend’s ComiCon and she can finally tell us why:

…today it was finally announced at Comic Con that after NYX ends this month I’ll be working on a new ongoing X-Men series for Marvel called DARK WOLVERINE.  I’m co-writing with Daniel Way.

Holy crapping damn, that is kick ass! Way to go! Liu was creator Way’s first choice to co-author, and while I am not a comic person I am so excited about this. Congrats to Liu on a rocking new collaboration.

In other fun news, Leslie Kelly has SBTB to thank for a few lost hours filled with Neil Patrick Harris and musical hilarity:

Book CoverJust had to write to you because you guys are the ones who first turned me on to Dr. Horrible. I loved it, my whole family loved it, and hubby bought me the dvd for Christmas. We just got around to watching it (looooovee that music so much, Neil Patrick Harris is genius…saw him on stage and absolutely adore him.) Anyway, you MUST MUST get it and watch/listen to “Commentary: The Musical.” It’s a 45 minute musical commentary sung by the cast and crew and is utterly hilarious. Every song and line matches up to what’s going on in the move that’s playing in the background. (We were roaring, and just to show what musical geeks we are, hubby and I both said, in unison, “That’s so Sondheim!” in one part.)

Anyway, just had to tell you and to thank you for highlighting it on SBTB. It has truly become one of my favorite musicals (and believe me, I know my musicals.

)

That is WAY too much fun. Who wants a copy? Leave a comment and I’ll pick two lucky winners who will receive their very own Dr. Horrible DVD. Comments close in 24 hours.

Just wanted to say this is a FANTASTIC little production. Dr. Horrible totally rules. It’s really brilliant. And you pick up on more little things every time you watch it (on the day they had all three parts up on the blog, I watched it five or six times…).

I already loved Neil Patrick Harris. Seeing this made me adore him. It’s funny, it’s tragic, it’s AMAZING.

So glad you’re blogging about it!

  10. Andieg says:

Aw, my spam word is a sign…“let68”.  I was born in 68.  Let 68 win! 🙂

  15. NancyB says:

    Oooh!  Ooooh! Ooooh!

Pick me!  Pick me!  Please, please, please pick me!

I promise I’ll make sure that, thanks to the Bitchery, Dr. Horrible will spread his influence across the generations – from my 91-year-old aunt to my daughters;  across a continent – from us in NJ to some sibs in sunny CA;  and across academia – the college campuses of my 2 daughters, my daughter’s BF’s frat house at another college, and the college where my sister is the librarian.  All shall know the Power Of The Bitchery, because I’ll tell them where I got it, and Dr. Horrible.  That is……….if you pick me.  Pretty please?  With sugarplums on top?

  17. Kimberly M. says:

    OOoh!!!! NPH!!!! *swoon*

  18. Polly says:

Oh, oh, oh—I want a shiny new Australia!

  22. Anaquana says:

Marjorie M. Liu and Dark Wolverine… YUMMY!

But not quite as yummy as NPH and Nathan Fillion.

  23. Babs says:

Oh, Dr Horrible. Watched it online when it was first out (big props to my So Cal sister for alerting me to the impeding posts.) Joss Whedon, love ya!

  24. Joanna says:

I cried my frakking eyes out at the end! Damn you Whedon! Thanks for the tip on the commentary, it sounds hilarious – if it’s not a win, it’s a buy 🙂

  25. Willa says:

Oooh, Dr. Horrible! Count me in!

  26. Maya M. says:

I’ve been hearing nothing but good about this for some time, but never searched for it online because I was certain it would crash my finicky and frail computer.

I’m not surprised to hear that NPH is really good in it, though, because I thought he was very funny in that spy movie spoof ‘Undercover Brother’ where he played the only white employee in a black work environment, and also when he hosted SNL recently.  It’s really great when child actors break out of that niche and go on to do great entertainment work, instead of, like, robbing drycleaners or something.

  27. Anya says:

Dr. Horrible?  I’ve been living under a rock…but how can I not be intrigued with something with musical commentary.  And I totally heart NPH.

  28. Orli says:

NPH! He is so rockin’ on How I Met Your Mother, and so strangely funny in Harold and Kumar—as of now I’d watch him read a grocery list, because he’d have (s)excellent reasons for each item on it.

I’d love to have this video!

  29. Victoria says:

    i love musicals!

  30. tammy says:

me.  I’d love to win one.

  31. DeeCee says:

Neil Patrick Harris is always a riot. I loved him in the H&K movies. 🙂

  32. Lil' Deviant says:

    *wink* & *smile*

  33. Karen says:

    Sounds fun!

  34. SonomaLass says:

Okay, I’m totally impressed by Marjorie’s news.  WTG!!!

As for Doctor Horrible, I absolutely LOVED it—all four of my kids sent me links to it when it was first on line, as we are all big NPH fans (How I Met Your Mother, anyone?).  I’d love to win a copy.

  35. KJsGrrl says:

Raising hand…sign me up for a copy!

  36. Saam says:

Sounds like a winner – especially if it has Sondheim overtones!
Something to distract from the terrible bushfires raging across south-eastern Australia would be nice…
