St. Martin’s Offers Free PDF Short Story from L.A. Banks

Book CoverIf you’re a fan of L.A. Banks’ Vampire Huntress series, you probably know the last book in the series is coming out on 3 February.

But if you’re curious and want to test-drive Banks’ writing style, or you’re a fan of the series and want every last bit of it, you can thank your lucky St. Martin (patron saint, if you’re curious, of barbers, hairdressers, African Americans, race relations, and social justice or horses, depending if your Martin is de Porres or of Tours) because there’s a free L.A. Banks PDF short story all for you.

From this page you can access a link to download a PDF version of Atlantis Rising, a never-before-released L.A. Banks short story that’s part of the Vampire Huntress Legend series, plus a wallpaper for your computer. From the subscription form it looks as if your contact info will be associated with Banks’ subgenre, but if you’re a urban fantasy/vampire/kick ass heroine reader, that’s not a bad thing.

Yes, you’ll be giving your email address to St. Martin’s, but you know, for free reading, I’ll hand out my email address to just about anyone. But then, I have umpteen badrillion email addresses.

    Thanks for the link.

Eh…I don’t think the short story is a great an entry into Banks’ writing. Though I love the VHL series, it took me two tries to finish the first book (way back in 2005) because her writing style is more “urban” than I’m used to. Not to say that’s a bad thing, because I find her writing to be dense and luscious, but it’s very flashy and colorful.

However, my main caveat is that you won’t know what the hell is going on in that short story without having read the previous eleven books!

Is anyone else getting an error message?

Such cool news!!! I’m real sad that this part of the series is coming to an end…so if it has anything to do with the VHL series, better believe I’m getting it!
