Don’t forget – the Smart Bitch Videomo Contest entries are due on 1 January 2009.
So far, there’s one entry. One lonely entry. Shiloh Walker has it in the bag unless we get some more participants. Hope your video craftiness is inspired! I mean, seriously, how could you turn down your chance at the people’s ovation and fame forever? Or, barring that, a Kindle?
Yay, Shiloh!
I’d give you competition but I possess no tech skills (nor a significant other with tech skills).
Note to self: Ask Santa for SO w/ computer skills! Should also possess carpentry, plumbing and housekeeping skills, and pretty much what Jaine & co. listed in Linda Howard’s Mr Perfect. *VBG*
Well, shit! I want a Kindle. Might as well try my hand at making a videomo, eh? 😀
When I had the book trailer contest, practically no one entered even though I had incredible prizes. I cried a lot, but then I found a shiny penny and I was happy again.
So here’s my trailer for your book. I believe I’ve successfully culled all the essential information that I’ve gleaned from reading your site for years now.
Also, I know there are grammatical errors in the captions, but I was shifting around the slides and blah blah blah.
Like all truly successful YouTube videos, mine includes a song by Tom Jones.
Here are mine attempts… it is the same visual, but two different songs.
As soon as the semester is over I shall officially brainstorm in a major way. 😀
Marta- that is awesome. So is Shilo’s now that I have seen it. Sorry but I don’t get yours Lgrunzilla. Not that that matters. You all did more than I could even attempt to do. Maybe if we weren’t trying to pack the kid off to film school we would have time to make one, but that ain’t happening.
Guess I will just have to wait for my Kindle that is on back order. Then I can decide which one I keep and which one the kid gets.
Hey, Marta, I made you a video! Sigh….How soon they forget….
And I hate to get on my soapbox, but please watch the copyrighted music/images, everyone. It’s really not okay to use anything under copyright for advertising purposes.
I love Shiloh’s and Gruzilla’s, yours is fabulously loopy. Diana, I remember! But I only got a total of about a dozen entries.
As for the copyrighted music, I got a notice from the corp. that owns it, and they’re cool so long as they monitor the video and put ads on the YouTube page.
Mine’s cool. I buy a yearly membership into the site I used for the video and that membership fee also gives access to music that’s been okayed to use for ad stuff.
Ms Bookjunkie, my tech skills are decidedly limited. 😉
Here’s mine!
I didn’t mean to imply that you guys weren’t on board with the copyrights. (And I LOVE the videos.) I just wanted to make sure people in general understood that you can’t just download music off itunes and then use it for an ad. Or take stock from Google images. Or whatever. EVERY image and piece of music has to be okay for COMMERCIAL use. Which usually means some kind of one-time fee at the very least.
And what about using other peoples’ book covers? Honestly, I have no idea. Does someone’s book cover in a video to sell your book imply endorsement? That might be a problem. Any lawyers out there know? I’d be wary….I wouldn’t put another author’s cover in my promo without written permission.
This is my first attempt at video making!!
First comment on the site, but that’s how I roll.
Some of these entries are HILARIOUS. The Book making obscenely thrusting gestures? The Literator? Brilliant!
But please please, pretty please, make sure that you have permission to include the images and music you use. For example: Marta Acosta’s hilariosity is a hoot, but I can’t include it. Cover art doesn’t belong to me, and neither do hotrageous pictures of His Fabioness. (The shar-pei Hoff, however, I think must be fair game, because, well, The Hoff himself is open source, no? Wait, he’s not. Oh. Damn).
Keep ‘em coming.

I’ve been working on mine, but that’s part of what’s taking me so long. I’m searching high and low for appropriate images/music that’s public domain or open source.
Iz hokay that I’m ineligible for the prizzes. I do not want de Kindle. I eshew the Kindle. Gusendheit.
Aw, and my Kindle just told me how much it adores your stylish self.
Now, I don’t want to call your Kindle names, but, well, slut, slut, slut! I’m still trying to get e-versions of my novels off shared sites.
Madd, try Musopen. It’s got a bunch of music in the public domain and it’s free to download, that’s what I used.
Marta- I was a good girl- I bought the from Sony for my ereader- Finally got the first one from the library and decided to take the others on vaca with me.
Ev, thanks! Hope you enjoy them. My most recent, The Bride of Casa Dracula, just got nominated by the Romantic Times for a Reviewers Choice Award. That was swell.
Personally, I’m on the computer all day so it’s work. I love the heft and feel of books and paper. I know that someday we will have chips implanted in our brains and books will be downloaded directly into our noggins, but until then I shall remain War & Peace free and happy with my stacks of real books.
The Literator is an old joke. In high school, someone commented about how I went through books so quickly. Someone who’d known me for longer said, “Alex is like a machine.”
So I thought about it, and decided that if I’m a machine for reading book, I must be a Literary Terminator (get to the end as quickly as possible!) Mash ‘em together, and you get the Literator!
I did check to see if it’s a real world. It means a teacher of basic knowledge. Which, considering I’m a teaching assistant for geology lab classes, makes sense too.
I spent WAY too much time on this last night! I think it could be even better, but if I put the same amount of hours into actual WORK I coulda bought my own Kindle…
It’s not as funny as it could have been, since I made it totally ‘clean’ – i.e., you don’t have to worry about your 5 year old seeing it and asking, “Mommy, what’s a wang?”
sadieloree, that’s bloody awesome, first go or not. Extremely professional looking and witty! Some of the others are hilarious, although I now have Tom Jones stuck in my head (and not in a good way)
Trix- Thank you! It’s dangerously addictive!
So addictive, in fact, that I made this one last night.
I have to agree with Anony Miss, I could spend WAY too much time doing this. *grins*
Anony Miss, your video is AWESOME! You did a great job (love the rules of romance) and I’m envious of your mad slideshow skills. The best I can do is make the slide background the same color.
Marta, thanks – it’s all the software, not so much me, but thanks!
sadieloree, oh booger, now you make me want to go back and make another one….
I did another one, too!
Who needs to find internships when you can make videos?
Finally got mine to upload!
First attempt at using PhotoStory. I’m really pleased with the music I found, though. (And it is Creative Commons licensed as long as I attribute it! Yay!)
Here is mine. A bit too long, perhaps. A bit inappropriate, possibly. But it’s hard to argue with ballerinas.
Moreena—You’re daughter is precious! Love your videomo!
nice contest and posting.i recommend this contest in music internships websites.
