Crash Into Me- a Giveaway

Book CoverWe interrupt this Day of HaBO-lation to … give away some books! Jill Sorenson is giving away five ARCs of her her debut single-title romance Crash Into Me, due out in January 2009. Crash Into Me is about a tough female FBI agent placed undercover to investigate a gorgeous-hot but reclusive pro surfer.

Want one? She’s looking for help among the brilliance of the Bitchery: her editor at Bantam is looking for sexy/provocative song lyrics or titles for the title of her next book. “Crash Into Me” is, obviously, the extremely sultry Dave Matthews Band song, so her editor wants to keep with that theme. Jill’s untitled book, to be released in fall 2009, features “a wildlife expert heroine and a reluctant sheriff hero, investigating a mountain lion mauling in the fictional desert town of Tenaja Falls, California.”

[Note: Wildlife expert heroine?! Wildlife expert?! Paging Paul Tolme! Paging Paul Tolme!]

Jill will pick the winners this time tomorrow, and winners will each receive a shiny, spiffy ARC of Crash Into Me. Winners are humbly asked to post a review or their thoughts of the book on their own blogs, or to post them as a comment to the winner’s announcement tomorrow.

Here are some awful suggestions that are easy to beat to get you started: The Lion Sleeps Tonight!. Dude Looks Like a Lion! And… wait for it… wait for it… Love Bites!

Truly, there aren’t enough 80’s Hair Band Power Ballads used as romance novel titles, and that’s a damn hairy shame.

Yea, Jill!!!!  I’m terrible at titles. My publishers never keep mine, but they usually keep the ones my critique partner comes up with. I’ll send her over. *g*

Oh, and if Dave Matthews’ song lyrics are any indication… his lovers must crawl from his bed in the morning, their limbs boneless and weak.*purr*

    Suze says:

My favourite sultry song is by Eliza Gilkyson, Unless You Want Me

It’s lush and sensual, and sung by a woman, which may be appropriate if the man is reluctant.

I first heard it on the radio (ckua.com) and it grabbed so hard I actually contacted them to find out who the artist was.

The lyrics (grabbed from some site, and may be a little wrong):

    don’t turn the light out
    don’t let the night in
    unless you want me now
    don’t take your clothes off
    or bear your soft skin
    unless you want me now

don’t turn your gaze on me
unless you want the whole of my caress
    to touch your soul
to come to rest in the moonlight
    don’t close your eyes and
    breathe with the soft wind
    unless you want me now
    unless you want me

my body aches when you draw near
your fragrance whispers in my ear
I can’t hold back my feelings here
    in the moonlight
    don’t touch my body
    don’t even smile at me
unless you really want me now
    unless you want me now

    don’t turn the light out
    don’t let the night in
    unless you want me

I had way too much fun with this.
    Funny:
Animal : Def Leppard (or really, anything by Def Leppard)
    Mahna Mahna :  The Muppets
All I Wanna Do is You : Bon Jovi

    Serious:
When I Said I Do : Clint Black
“When I said I do, I meant that I will ‘til the end of all time”

Fast as I can : Great Big Sea
“From the first “Hello” you gave to me I’ve done nothing else but smile”

    Breakin’ Me : Jonny Lang
“I’m desperate for your love and it’s breakin’ me”

My, My, My : Rob Thomas
“Forever be what you mean to me right now”

    I Don’t Know : Ruth Brown
    “Whenever I feel his touch
I get a thrill that’s much too much
Too much, too much, too much”

    Chasing Cars : Snow Patrol
    “I need your grace
    To remind me
    To find my own”

    Desert Rose – Sting

Yeah, I’ll see if I can do any better after I’ve slept.  :)

What about the old 70s song Wildfire? Who sang that? Michael Martin Murphy? Gordon Lightfoot?

OOO put my name in for the Arc drawing too please!

  13. 13
    Lizzie (greeneyed fem) says:

Shouldn’t that be The Mountain Lion Sleeps Tonight? :)

And can I just say right now that my password is ‘name15’? Does that mean that I have to come up with 14 more titles?

Hm. What about Hurts So Good by John Cougar Mellencamp?

The Mountain Goats, although not as well-known as the Dave Matthews Band, have a song called Lion’s Teeth.

I guess any of Sheriff’s song titles could work: When I’m With You, etc —but they’re not instantly recognizable like Crash Into Me.

I feel like I might get more traction with the ‘wildlife’ angle.

    Wild Wild West
    Wild Wild Life

Take a Walk on the Wild Side or A Walk on the Wild Side

Or the California angle! Californication FTW!

There’s a real song called Sex with the Sheriff and another called Wildlife at Large. Both relevant to the plot description! Mountain Song (Jane’s Addiction) could work as a book title.

    Monique says:

    For titles:
    A Wolf at the Door
    Paralyzer
    Night Moves
    Lips Like Sugar

@ Jennifer Estep:  I like The Killers too.  Just discovered them recently.

Here’s some. I tried to keep to music that at least some people would have heard of…

Running Wild – by Roxy Music
    Call My Name – Prince
Desert Song – My Chemical Romance
    Natural Woman – Aretha
Castles Made of Sand – Hendrix
    Hot Sand – Shocking Blue
Wild Wild West – Will Smith
Wild Nights, Hot and Crazy Days – Judas Priest
    Ride the Wild – Descendents

    Cheerio!

  17. 17
    Missy Ann says:

Cover Me – Bruce Springsteen, hot when he sings it. Now imagine a woman singing it. Double hot.

    Rebecca Hb. says:

Note to self: While the Star Wars: Republic Commando books have indeed infected my brain, this is a contest to give away ‘Advanced Reader Copies’, not ‘Advanced Recon Commandos’. Even if surly clones of Jango Fett would make awesome giveaway prizes.

‘Lay Your Hands on Me’, Mission UK
‘Evangeline’, Mission UK (read the lyrics – this is one of the sexiest songs I know) (possibly, however, it’s the wrong mood for the story)
‘You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth’, Meatloaf
‘Good Girls Go to Heaven (Bad Girls Go Everywhere)’, Meatloaf
    ‘Call Me’, Blondie
‘Take Advantage of Me’, Seanan McGuire
‘Love Ain’t For Keeping’, The Who
‘Closer to Believing’, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
‘Creature of the Wood’, Heather Alexander

    Celia says:

I also like Night in My Veins, even if that might not work for this book.  She can save it for her next one!

There’s a Semisonic song called “El Matador,” for the CA touch, but it’s not a particularly sexy song (They certainly do have some, though none that I can think of being good for this).

    “Don’t Fence Me In.”

For romance there’s “The Air that I Breathe” or “Wish You were Here.”  “I Get A Kick out of You” “From This Moment On,”

(I will refrain from mentioning an Unbelievable Truth song, “Everybody has to eat.” as that might be in bad taste. )

  20. 20
    Celia says:

Oh, I remember the other one I was thinking of—“Nobody Does It Better”—my cover of it starts with the boys from Radiohead announcing that this is ‘the sexiest song in the world”

    krsylu says:

I can see I’m the country oddball here, but how about:

Would You Go With Me—Josh Turner (that deep voice gives me the shivers every time!)

Would you go with me if we rolled down streets of fire
Would you hold on to me tighter as the summer sun got higher
If we roll from town to town and never shut it down

Would you go with me if we were lost in fields of clover
Would we walk even closer until the trip was over
And would it be okay if I didn’t know the way

If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn’t beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Let me know if you’re really a dream
I love you so, so would you go with me

Would you go with me if we rode the clouds together
Could you not look down forever
If you were lighter than a feather
Oh, and if I set you free, would you go with me

If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn’t beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Help me tie up the ends of a dream
I gotta know, would you go with me
I love you so, so would you go with me

    KarenF says:

What about Van Morrison’s “Wild Night”

  24. 24

Oh, wow!  So many great suggestions!  I’m grinning like an idiot reading all of these.

I’m going to have trouble choosing just five…

(Hi Victoria!  My titles never stick, either.  My original name for this book was “Dark Canyon.”  Guess that was too boring, lol.)

  25. 25
    Erin says:

We needed a little distraction at work – thanks!  Here’s what we came up with:

    Feeling Love – Paula Cole
Arms of a Woman – Amos Lee
Safe in the Arms of Love – Martina McBride

    Or maybe a jazz standard?
Nature Boy – (SO couldn’t help myself)

  26. 26
    HaloKun says:

I don’t know how sexy it is to others but Gogol Bordello have some good titles

    “Wanderlust King”
    “Harem in Tuscany”
    “Dub The Frequencies Of Love”
    “Think Locally F**k Globally”

There are some really good ones up there.  I particularly like the Meatloaf and Mellancamp..  That sounds dirty in and of itself.

  27. 27
    Jessica D says:

I’m going to suggest another Dave Matthews phrase: Lie Spread from “When the World Ends.” (“Your legs don’t work ‘cause you want me so you just lie spread.”) Gloriously filthy, but also (*BUZZKILL ALERT*) could refer to mauled, dead bodies spread on the ground.

    Er, yeah. Sorry for that.

  28. 28
    S. W. Vaughn says:

    Fall Into Sleep (Mudvayne)
    Fade to Black (Metallica)
Behind Blue Eyes (Limp Bizkit version)
The Kill (30 Seconds to Mars)
    Bring Me to Life (Evanescence)
    Right Here Waiting (Staind)
    Something to Believe In (Poison)
Shot Through the Heart (Bon Jovi)
    Running Blind (Godsmack)

Man, this is hard to do without having read the book. I’d have suggested Far Away (Nickelback), but the title’s too bland.

They’re all a little on the bland side, I guess. :-P

    Silver James says:

The DD was playing Evanescence this morning:
    Bring Me to Life
    Fields of Innocence

    Lifehouse:
    Hanging By A Moment
    Somewhere In Between

Vertical Horizon (which could be a title itself):
    Everything You Want

    Hot Like Fire – Leki
Kiss of Fire – Louis Armstrong

    Non serious selections:

    The Lovecats – The Cure
Desert Of Our Love – U2
Cry Me A River – Justin Timberlake
    Carrion – Fiona Apple

    Sand In My Shoes- Dido
Give Me Your Water – HYIM
