Oprah Loves the Kindle

Book CoverOprah, it seems, looooooves the Kindle. It’s no secret I’ve had a heaping Big Gulp of the Kindle-Ade myself, so to have something in common with Oprah? That gives me a big giggle.

But soft! What light through yonder discount breaks?

Yes, the Dow is tanking and financial markets around the world are in a state of holyshit, and boy, oh boy, Iceland is a sad pony right about now, but if you wanted to get a Kindle? Thank your lucky Oprah because that bad boy is $50 off through November 1, for a total of $309.00. Take a look: use the code “OPRAHWINFREY” at checkout, and you’ll get $50 off your Kindle.

[Thanks to Jane @ DA for the link.]

No, really?  ‘Cause that might be what hubby is getting me for Christmas…..  I’ve been wondering…has anyone had any technical probs with theirs?

  2. rebyj says:

well i can come up with the 9 bux….

    *grumbles*

  3. More marketing incentive for the Kindle, like it needed more, right? Any idea if we can get a student discount on top of that?

  4. kathy says:

Gragh! I am getting a Kindle for Christmas (YES!), but have been waiting to see if they come out with the second generation in time for the holidays. However, $50 off is tempting… I am so torn.

Has anyone here heard anything about the new version of the Kindle?

  5. ev says:

I taped the show today to see what the new gadget was she was saying she can’t live without.

they are probably doing the discount now because of early Xmas and I will be a new one will come out right after Xmas. So they can get rid of the old ones.

I am waiting for the new eReader on Nov 14th. I will probably pick it up when I am in NYC over T-giving.

  6. DS says:

Have had my Kindle since February with no technical problems.  There were some early battery not holding a charge complaints and I once or twice (when I let it lose its charge while it was powered on), had to restart it but that is all.  I got my best friend one for Christmas—it arrived in Feb. also and I don’t think she has even had the few problems I’ve had.

  7. Annmarie says:

I want the Kindle. My Amazon Visa wants me to HAVE the Kindle. OPRAH wants me to have the Kindle. If only someone other than me would pay my Amazon Visa. Those Amazon Visa people are really strict about having SOMEONE make the payments.  Sadly, I can’t afford even a $300 present to myself right now.

This may be the one time I (briefly) rue the spouse’s mighty fine judgement in surprising me with Kindle-Ade for my birthday, a scant week ago.  And, really, $50 more in my (well, his) pocket, but to have my new love for 7 fewer days, and to not actually get it on my birthday (which I celebrate as if it was a national holiday)?  Not really worth it.

(verify:  bed99—yes, I’m in bed with Kindle right now, but she does not yet hold 99 books)

  9. Kelita says:

I have been sipping mightily of the Kindle.  I got mine in February and I have had no problems at all –  um except for the one where I just have no control when I hear about a good book.  One the plus side, I’m never without a book or 40. ;-P

  10. Lucy says:

I have had my Kindle since July and LOVE it! I take it everywhere with me and I’m never without a book. I haven’t exceeded my book budget but I used to buy hardcovers so between those discounts and the cheaper than paperback prices I win!

  11. LJ Roberts says:

I bought my Kindle in April when I was doing a lot of cross-country travel for my job.  It was the best purchase I’ve ever made.  With the strict weight limits for luggage on airlines, I no longer have to figure out how to pack my nine books for a 7-day trip (you always have to have extras).

I’m no longer traveling, but anytime I leave the house, so does my Kindle.  Now if I’m stuck waiting in a line anywhere or I’m early to meet a friend, who cares.  I open my Kindle and read.

I’ve not have any technical problems with mine at all.

  12. J.C. Wilder says:

I’ve had my Kindle since June (its a tax write off for writers!) and I just love it. I take it with me everywhere and I can buy books on the fly. The best part (well, one of MANY best parts) is that you can download samples of the books before you buy. Just go to Amazon, click on sample and VOILA – 2-3 chapters magically appear.

love25 – yep, I love it 25 times more than my television. 🙂

  13. Rachel says:

I freaking absolutely LOVE my Kindle!
If you bought one and then a discount came out so close after, I would email Kindle support and ask them to honor the code.

They did that for me when I got mine just prior to the price going down to what it is now. They refunded the extra 49 bucks and change within 24 hours.

I review books for a living

and use it all the time. Absolutely NO issues here with it. The only thing I wish were different is that it really needs a back lit screen. But I have a couple of book lights I can hook on to it.

Sony has an excellent reader too that is less. AND you can read e-books on your PDA as well.

Any kindle users want to hook up and swap free kindle finds just email me racoo. smith at gmail. com

I found one today as a matter of fact.

And I LOVE mine more than my TV or computer. 🙂

Kindle, kindle KINDLE… (stepping away from the caffeine now)

Though I have to say, we do have a contest prize of a killer mini computer up for grabs next week. Perfect for reading electronics on too.

I am to the point where I prefer to read everything electronically on my Kindle. It is way simpler. I was resistant at first when I first heard about it’s release. But now I am a huge fan.

Thanks for posting the discount. It has been shared on the review forums!

    Rachel
