Friday Videos Like the Alphabet

Want some alphabetical action? Oh yeah, baby.

They Might be Giants can help:

So can The Animaniacs (note – the song is from 1990 so there are some geographical references that aren’t valid any longer).

[Thanks to Sourygna for the Animaniacs link]

Waay to early for that for me!! LOL!!

  2. theo says:

I just love Animaniacs!! What a way to start the day. LOL! Thanks!

  3. Lisa Yvette says:

Aww the Animaniacs bring back such memories …

  4. Ri L. says:

Animaniacs + TMBG = FTW.  So hard.

I memorized Yakko’s World when I was eight.  Sixteen years later I can still spout the whole thing off.

  5. kopperhead says:

West Xylophone! Cute! I was wondering what they were going to use for “X”.

  6. I like the bizarre dancing that happened between verses. Aaaaah!!

  7. Tibbles says:

Good way to cheer up my day.  Thanks!!!!

  8. canadacole says:

Animaniacs equals awesome!  My 4 year old keeps making me play it, so if you have an unusual amount of hits, it’s just us!

Also, now I must go to you tube because I was hoping that was going to be “Instanbul then Constantinople”.  No one covers that song like Yakko.

  9. Julia Quinn says:

I am such a They Might Be Giants fangirl.  I am currently partial to “Nonagon.”  I love the little polygon arms in the video!

Don’t ask me why it’s Spanish youtube.  I can’t seem to convince youtube that I don’t live in Spain.

Oh, and here is TMBG doing “Istanbul Not Constantinople”

    http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=xo0X77OBJUg&feature=related

Which does tie into books, because I once heard my nephew singing “Istanbul not Barnes and Noble…”

  10. Katie Ann says:

Eee I’ve “Yakko’s World” on my iPod for a good while now, still working on memorizing the whole thing.

  11. Helen M says:

    Animaniacs, YAY!

I never did manage to memorise Yakko’s World, but I was always inordinately pleased that they mentioned Hong Kong.

  12. S.J. Ku says:

Yes, I’ve discovered it’s impossible for me to watch Yakko’s World without smiling.

  13. Caity says:

    Oh, sweetness!

I’m so happy you put both of those up today. Leave it to you bitches to make me feel better. Does anyone else wish Animaniacs was still on? My Tivo would be working overtime!!

    Spam Word: big48. YOWWWCH!

  14. theo says:

ME!!! mememememe!!! I watched that show religiously. Loved it. And the theme song from Pinky and the Brain runs through my head at the most mundane times….

  15. SonomaLass says:

Oh theo, you didn’t!  Yes, you did—the “Pinky and the Brain” theme song is SUCH as earworm. AAAARRGGHHH!!

I am also a total TMBG fangirl, member of a fan family.  We all love “the Johns.”  They are in the car stereo right now.  And the Animaniacs?  Total genius.  My two older kids, in their 20s, were just the right age for them, and they made sure we had enough Animaniacs on video to indoctrinate their younger siblings.  Watching the Animaniacs Christmas Special is one of our most important holiday rituals to this day.

This was an awesome set of Friday links.  Thanks!

  16. theo says:

    SonomaLass…

    Sorry?

    hehehehehe

We’re Pinky, Pinky and the Brain…Brain…Brain…Brain…

    *cheeky grin*

  17. East Nash says:

OMG – Hubby & I used to always watch Animaniacs AND Pinky & the Brain!

Pinky: What are we gonna do tonight, Brain?
Brain: Same thing we do every night, Pinky, try to take over the world!

I’m a newby to the site, and I already love you guys!

  18. Julie Leto says:

I’m so glad I’m not the only cartoon freak around here.

So ‘fess up…who loves Duck Dodgers?

    ::raising hand!::

  19. theo says:

    Duck Dodgers to the rethcue!

    And Marvin the Martian 🙂

    :raises hand too!!:

  20. Joanna S. says:

I absolutely LOVED Animaniacs when I was in JR High & High School, and I was so very sad when it was cancelled.  My favorites were always the historical tours led by Miss Information – I especially remember their Joan of Arc, where it had the French troops taunting the English with, “You were beaten by a giiiirrl!  You were beaten by a giiiirrrl!”

    *snorffle*

It still makes me laugh after all this time…

  21. Caity says:

Two words. Duck Tails (tails or tales?). Woo-ooo. I HAD to watch that show when I came home from school. That and TMNT and Tiny Toons. And X-MEN. Wow, I need to buy some DVDs on Amazon now. I’m totally going into some withdrawal.

SPAM word: friend88, yes, some of these shows were my friends in 1988.

  22. Suze says:

Wow, I’m feeling old.  All those cartoons were way past my time.

My favourite after-school cartoon: Battle of the Planets!  Yep, G-Force.  Five fearless young orphans!  Mark, Jason, Princess, the fat guy, and the test-tube baby guy with a speech impediment.

Oh, the cool underwater headquarters.  The most excellent vehicles.  The oddly rigid relaxation scenes, with drums and guitars.  The Phoenix!

And Zoltar!  You know, I think he triggered my love of sexually ambiguous anime heroes.

    Holy cow.

  23. Misschristmas says:

You feel old? I ordered HRPuffinstuff and Lidsville for Christmas! For myself! I love the Warner Bros. cartoons and use them in my general music classes. It’s a great way to sneak in the classics. “Kill the Wabbit” will always be a favorite with me.

  24. Misschristmas says:

    Oh. My Gosh!!!
I used the posted links to watch the TMBG video. From there, I followed a YouTube trail to Sesame Street and “Classic” Ernie and Bert sketches. When did Bert get a nose job???!?

  25. Lauren says:

Wow. A double dose of amazing: the ever-clever Animaniacs and made-of-awesome They Might Be Giants. Very nice!

Ah, nostalgia. “Yakko’s World” and “Wakko’s States and Capitals” helped me pass many a geography test in junior high, and “The Presidents Song” led to my eighth-grade and then AP U.S. History teachers thinking I was a freak (and giving me extra credit). I am a proud owner of the Animaniacs DVD box set.

I wasn’t introduced to TMBG until a few years ago, but I’ve since seen them in concert twice. Any band that actively utilizes an accordion and obscure literary references is cool by my eyes, and their kids’ albums are just as good and twice as catchy as their regular fare.
