Sam Hain, a distant cousin to Sam Bucca, is kicking ass and taking names in the free ebook temptation department. This week they’re offering Truth and Consequences by Linda Winfree.
In other ebook news, a new app for the Mac is making many people very happy.
Stanza is for windows too. It just opens so many microsoft centric formats you used to not be able to read on mac osx.
Does not do any DRM’ed ebooks but hey it does everything I need with non-drm.
I reccomend really looking around the Stanza website. Including the FAQ. There are a lot of links for free books and helpful “how to’s ” .
I saw Teddypig’s post yesterday and spent a happy hour clicking around Stanza.
I sat in my living room and got bored with the last debate downloaded the new Josh Lanyon to my iPhone from the Stanza desktop I left running upstairs and read.
Perfect!
Wow; thanks for the tip! I doubt I would have found out about this as quickly and I’m really excited at the prospect of having a program that will make getting ebooks on my Mac easy.
How are the free ebooks that are offered anyway? Do you think it makes readers more likely to buy ebooks?
I hear that.
I just picked up JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood: An Insider’s Guide in paperback because I felt I needed it on paper so I could flip around easily.
Weird. I haven’t read a paper book in 6 months.
Nancy, one of the linked sites was http://www.baen.com/library/
It explains it pretty well, how free ebooks will stimulate further purchases.
And it had a good library, lots of authors my honey likes. David Drake, Harry Turtledove etc.
Hi Sarah – is the free ebook only available on Kindle? I went to the Samhain website and it’s showing as $14.50….
T-T
I have been all OVER the Samhain website, and it looks like this is not a free ebook, really, just a free Kindle book at Amazon. For those of us who haven’t drunk the Kindle Aid, that is not the same thing, ‘fraid.
Back to my paper books, where I have no real format issues.
Alas, I have no Kindle so this doesn’t rock my world, but I was entertained by the fact that the chick in the picture looks like Shannon Daugherty. It’s been a really long day so I have to take my amusement where I can get it.
If you ever figure out how the paper experience is different from the Kindle experience, share it with us! I’ve heard people swear up and down that the Kindle simulates the paper experience, or at least that people don’t feel a difference, but I don’t have a Kindle to check it out for myself.
Ahhh, I bet you’re right. I couldn’t find it either.
Sony has a new eReader coming out in November with a built in light so I am holding out until then. I hope I have it before we leave for Disney for Xmas. I don’t want to carry books with me. After bouncing back and forth I decided to stick with the Sony. The wireless dl of the Kindle was just too tempting. Besides, working for one of the subsidaries of Penquin Publishing now gives me an awesome discount including ebooks. yeah!!
Y’all. I suck. I’m sorry. I didn’t make it clear that the Sam Hain giveaways are Kindle-only.
Bad Sarah. Bad.
Samhain does have a new program for non-Kindle readers. It’s called Discover New Authors and you can check it out here:

The gist is you can download the three files and you can read the first half of the book. If you like it, there are links to buy the book and if you don’t then you haven’t wasted any money. 🙂
They are going to be adding new titles in the next week or so.
So naturally when I try to update my iTouch with Stanz, it didn’t.
I updated to whatever was the newest version, and it completely wiped my ipod clean. It took me 3 hours. Now it won’t dl the app.
I hate things that are supposed to be easy. They never are.
any suggestions?????
