Unleash Your Story

Thinking of writing during September? Thinking of reading during September (who isn’t?!)? Writers and readers are joining to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through the Unleash Your Story event. Sponsors can donate in honor of the writing and reading goals pledged by those who register, and folks can register in teams or individually. This year’s pacesetter author is Debbie Macomber, who writes about 46.6 million words a day, and I have to go lie down now.

Thanks to Kate Rothwell for the link.

If anyone would like to learn about some of the amazing things that the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has done, check out this article in Forbes profiling a rockin’ drummer with CF and how she feels CF Foundation has affected her life:

  2. Thanks for posting this, Sarah. As the mother of a CF child, I’m so very grateful for any support given by the readers/writers of this community.

When our son was first diagnosed with CF at the age of six weeks, we were told he might have a life expectancy of 30. As parents of barely thirty years ourselves, that was devastating.

But we also learned that only ten years earlier, the life expectancy had been only ten years.

So in a decade, research, partly funded by the CF Foundation, had tripled my son’s life expectancy. We’re very very close to a cure right now—and the time is now to push for those extra dollars. Every little bit helps!

Thanks so much for the support. I’m pledging to write 30,000 words in September, and I have a personal goal to raise $1,000.

I have a picture of my son on my blog, as well as links to donate in support of the fundraiser. Thank you so much for posting!

  3. Does anyone here have a group already? I was thinking of joining up because I have to write… Um… about 2600 words a day this month. (260 pages.) But I can’t really figure out what to do/how to sign up/how to start a group/whether I should start a group/when I would find the time to answer all these very easy questions. My confusion may have something to do with the 2600 words a day. *googly eyes*

Wait, what? I don’t know what that math was. 2000 words a day, maybe? Mommy?

  5. Victoria, you can join my group! Just head to my page and there’s a link to “join the group.” You can then let me know your goal and your weekly numbers and I’ll add it into the whole.

    Link to my page is:

    Thanks!

  6. I signed up after reading about it on the DA blog, doing it as an individual cuz I’m too lazy to try and organize a group thing.

It’s a good cause and for some reason, I always write better when I’ve got something to compete with.  Even if it’s just my own word count from the past day…
