Marianne Mancusi produced a 3 minute Better TV segment about Sherrilyn Kenyon’s new book – and big ups to MM because for three minutes and thirty seconds, the segment profiles Kenyon, her fans, her dedication, their dedication, the groups of people totally devoted to her books, and there’s a bit of me with my friendly neighborhood sinus infection in there, too, talking about fans who want to live in the worlds which writers create, and how extraordinary that is. It airs today in a bunch of markets across the US.

Yay Marianne – way to go!

I love seeing happy stuff like this, stuff that makes budding authors want to never give up because maybe, just maybe, they can see a dream come true.

    Great interview—nice cameo Sarah.  :-)

herself94—yup, Sherrilyn proves that by being yourself you can succeed.

    Outstanding video. Kudos, Marianne!

I particularly like the slow-mo “Thank you so much” of the fan getting the hug at the end. Nice.

I saw that video earlier via Sherri’s forum and I have to agree with you Sarah! For a 3 minute segment MM really captured Sherri, her fans ( of which I am one!) and the story of her beginnings.

    *applauds Ms. Mancusi*

As a new-ish fan of hers, this was really great to see.  I’m in the process of ordering the many, many books in the series.

I’ve been at a number of conferences with her over the past couple years and heard her tell that story, but it’s still captivating. And her dedication to her fans is truly stunning. I think she’s a great example for authors—give back to your fans, because they’ll give it back to you tenfold.

Fan appreciation, Kenyon is doing it right! And you are just cute as a button, Sarah. *wink* Just dated myself badly, didn’t I… *laugh*

I like that the site is listed as trashybooks.com (!). Is “bitches” not allowed on the segment?

Sherrilyn rocks!  Sarah rocks!  What a great combination!

On a related topic, the first two Dark-Hunter books are being released as manga in early ‘09.  You can read about it and see some previews of the art here:

They also have a couple of cute posters of Ash and Simi for sale.

Sarah, I didn’t hear the sinus infection.  So cute though.  And that is great that this woman went from nothing to a whole lot of fan base.  woot woot!!

I noticed that they didn’t put the SmartBitches in there either. LOL

I loved the fact that there were a bunch of guys in the audience and they didn’t appear to just be husbands waiting on their wives either.

    It was a great piece.

    spamword-position32- not tonight.

    Great segment, nice soundbite Sarah!

SK really is that good to her fans.  I saw her at a signing in London, the first one she’d done there I think, and none of the bookstore staff could believe how many people turned up.  The queue stretched down the street (and it was January, it was freezing!).  And if she comes back (Hey Sherri, you coming back?) then so will they, and they’ll probably bring their friends too.  Especially if the store gives out mulled wine again.

I’d say it’s an example of great PR, except that it doesn’t appear to be PR: she’s just actually that nice.

Great post! I really love Sherrilyn’s books, and while I knew she had a rough start, I didn’t know it was that desperate. Very inspirational!

Also, Elizabeth thanks for the link! I knew her other series had been made into a comic and I’ve been waiting for someone to take up the Dark Hunters!

    SB Sarah says:

Back when we started the site, we registered “trashybooks.com” in case people were blocked by the word “bitches” in the URL by their IT departments or spam/parental control software. We had no idea it would end up being media-friendly, but apparently the word “bitch” sends many many daytime viewers into hyperventilation. So we use the abbreviated URL when needed. But it works just the same.

HHAHAHAHA My captcha is “property87” – why yes, the URLs are our property!

    Very nice segment!
Sherrilyn is so adorable..she was very animated and excited at the Acheron release party in Nashville, absolutely beautiful and seems to really love what she does.

Sarah you’re so cute! You and Candy need to start a video podcast once a month/week or something.
