Little Item Recap

I have to check out of my room today because I am a doofus, but here’s a brief item highlight of yesterday:

1. I filmed an Author Talk segment with Jane from DA, and one of the following things did not happen:
a. I trounced her silly behind in the wall banger competition
b. Jane cracked me up retitling different Author Talk member’s books
c. We made out on film
d. Kresley Cole and Gena Showalter beat me senseless.

Guess which one!

2. I volunteered at the registration desk and ended up helping set up the luncheon instead. But I got to go “backstage” and meet some RWA staff folks who are so cool you can’t even believe it.

3. The Thirsty Bear cocktail party was so awesome, I’m dreaming of the food right now. Readers! Nifty people who read our site! They came! So it was this awesome mix of local reading awesomeness and people from the convention taking a break from the schmooze-fest, and I loved it. Angela James, Zoe Archer, Kate Duffy, and Carrie Lofty have a great idea for some new erotic historicals. Ask them about it – it’s so good lightning will strike.

4. I have to remember for next year that I must buy coffee creamer and ask for a fridge, because I’m all about making my own coffee, but not at all enamored of powdered creamer. So I have to head out in a minute in the hunt for caffeine.

5. The session on Theft of Creative Property that I am moderating is at 11. I’m introducing Jane and Nora Roberts, who really don’t need an introduction, but Nora’s friends and Jane helped me craft a Top Five Little Known Secrets list, which I hope I can use.

6. Jet lag is not my friend. Really. Not in the least. Thank heaven RWA is on the east coast next year.

Woot! First comment. I’m guessing D. Powdered creamer sucks. Hind tit. I wish I could be at your session – any chance you’ll share those Top Five after it’s over? And I’m all over RWA next year in DC and another SBTB meet up!

  2. Esri Rose says:

The party was awesome! Thank you so much!
I blogged on it, with some pictures. It’s here.

  3. Sami says:

For no fridge creamer, use hot chocolate mix. I buy a large can of Nestle rich chocolate and keep it on hand, that with a little extra sugar and I’m good to go.

Man some days I wish I still lived in the bay area but then I remember the other 51 weeks of the year and say nevermind.

  4. SonomaLass says:

Agreed that powdered creamer is nasty shit.  Even liquid non-dairy creamer is pretty icky.  If I know there’s a fridge, I usually get some UHT milk (that doesn’t need to be kept cold until it is opened).  When my DP traveled a lot, he had a whole little coffee kit that he took along to make sure he could do in-room coffee that he actually liked.

I still can’t believe I missed RWA on the Left Coast.  Sorry for those of you with jet lag (it’s a lot worse going East than West, though, in my experience) and who don’t like the Bay Area, but I do hope that you had a good time.

I’m especially sorry to have missed the SBTB meet-up.  Thanks, Esri Rose, for posting pictures!!!  It looks and sounds like a fun time.

  5. Ocy says:

Please, please tell me the make-out session with Jane was one of the things that actually happened.

  6. Cat Marsters says:

Jet lag’s even worse long-haul: I came to RWA Atlanta a couple of years ago and I was just a zombie the first night.  So tired I felt drunk: 9hr flight, complete with screaming toddler two rows away, and then negotiating US Immigration and ATL airport, which is bigger than many European countries and took two hours to get through.  And of course, while my body said it was the middle of the night, in Atlanta it was barely teatime.  Apparently I went to dinner with Sherri Kenyon that night.  There are photographs.  I remember about five minutes of it.

  7. Holly says:

I have nothing topical to add to this thread, I merely wanted to say: thanks, bitches.  I was making progress on my book – almost to 20,000 words – and then one of you bitches, and I think it was actually several bitches, got to singing the praises of Gaelen Foley and her Knights Miscellany series, and I’m halfway through The Duke and I can’t put it down and I can’t concentrate on my own frigging story.  I don’t even particularly like historicals because of all the emotional turmoil and crises you have to get through; I’m worried sick about what Belinda is going to do next.

And now I want to abandon my paranormal and try out this Regency I’ve thought about for years.

And I think I’m in love with Robert Knight.

    I hate ya’ll.

  8. This morning’s session was fantastic. Shocking how few people were there, though. I plan to blog about it…. When I get my brain back form the conference…
