Help A Bitch Out

HaBO from Down Under, with Chicken Pox

Candice is working on a paper “considering the elements of romanticism, eroticism and feminine arousal in the modern romance novel” and seeks a book from the wayback machine to help out her literary analysis:

I think it was a Harlequin Mills and Boon from about 10-sih years ago. The hero is a cowboy – fully maladjusted when it comes to relationships. I think he was an orphan and was raised by an aunt and uncle – uncle slapped him around I think. Umm… heroine is his wife who left him because he was so cold. They have children – twins, a boy and girl. Hero wants his family back but can’t bring himself to “love” anyone because of his childhood.

At some point the children get the chicken pox. The hero, feeling all rejected, barricades himself (literally) in his house – also with the chicken pox – and the heroine has to crawl through a window to get to him. And they all live happily ever after.

Reminds me of those parents who schedule play dates with children who have chicken pox to ensure that their kids get it as well, only with more romance. Anyone recognize this book?

sounds like A Slow Waltz Across Texas, by Peggy Moreland (I think). I have it around here somewhere but no time to go look for it. 🙂

Definately does not ring a bell with me. But then it also doesn’t sound like a story I would have picked up in the first place.

security word- dead72. I plan on living longer than that. I hope.

  3. Sounds like an episode from Little Men (the TV series, not the movie). I was SO in love with that merchant marine Nick dude. *sigh*

This was a wonderful book with plenty of plot twists, a likeable heroine and an unforgetable hero. Clayton’s story will make you cry and his coming to terms with his past and making peace in the present will have you cheering.

I found this *review* of SLOW WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS by Peggy Moreland, which was a Silhouette Desire from September 2000.

No, but I recognize the parent as me…

No, but I recognize the parent as me…

And I recognise the kid as me.  Aged five, I wondered why my friends and neighbours were coming to visit while I was bepoxed.  I thought my parents were just being mean to me…

  7. azteclady says:

I was the visiting kid, but never got it. No idea on the book, sowwwwwyyy

  8. It might be Shadow Ranch by Jo-Ann Mapson, which is a fab book altho not strictly speaking romance, and the crawler thru the window is visiting her brother with chickenpox (caught from his girlfriend’s kids).

I mean, how much chickenpox genre is there out there?

    possible43—see, it could be.

(and waaah, I can’t see the ferrets at home but I visited with them a lot today at work. Sweet!)
