Instead of a Call for Papers, it’s a Call for People from the Professors Brilliant over at Teach Me Tonight:
It is time for an academic society for the study of popular romance fiction, with all the rights and privileges appertaining thereunto, like a journal and conferences. So we have decided to start one! The society will be called The International Association for the Study of Popular Romance (IASPR) and the journal will be an online, open-source journal called The Journal of Popular Romance Studies (JPRS).
So, we’re looking for people who might be interested in helping us build these institutions. Do you want to get in on the ground floor? Do you already have experience in the hierarchy of an academic organization or with an academic journal that you’d love to share with us, even if you don’t want to be involved in the day-to-day aspects of running either? Please let us know!

I think this is pretty much an all-hands-on-deck kind of request, so if you’re a graphic designer, web kickasser, grant writer, peer reviewer, academic climatographer, or cutter-througher of administrative b.s., bring in your noise and your funk. I’m so on board with this one.
Email sent- in my other life I review and edit articles for scientific journals. I’m figuring anything coming into the JPRS will be a fun change from sodium channels and genetic linkage analysis.

Thanks for the info. I’m also a journal editor in the healthcare industry, but my passion for romance knows no bounds. I’m excited about this new venture to break up the monotony.
omg it sounds just like my day job except it DOESN’T SUCK! (I’m trying to teach the Great Gatsby to 11th graders right now. I hate them. Anyone who hasn’t fallen completely in love with this damned illiterate bootlegger with a single dream deserves to have their oxygen license revoked.)

Hmm… quick question! I e-mailed the most excellent Prof. Frantz last Friday, and have no idea if the e-mail got there or was devoured by Internet weevils. Have other folks gotten responses?
I am hoping that there has been such a deluge of answers that they just haven’t gotten through all of them… and, well, I don’t want to send annoying, “Whyyyy haven’t you responded to my e-mail?” e-mails. So, I figured I would inquire and see if it is in fact just personal Internet weirdness at work.
