Help A Bitch Out

Help a Bitch Out: White forelocks and mystery babies

Raina writes:

I was told to check yall out for memory lapses such as mine. I read this book a very long time ago and would very much like to read it again, if only I could remember. This is the description I have been posting everywhere I can think of.

“Teenagers get together in high school and wind up falling in love, parents
and another girl get in the way and they break up. The girl leaves town
and finds out shes pregnant. The story is in the future tense with flash
backs from the past. The woman winds up coming back to town and gets back
together with her old flame. he has a kid from another marriage and doesn’t
find out about his first child til towards the end. the thing that connects
both father and sons is that they all have a streak of whit in their hair.
the book is probably from the early 90s”

If you know what this book is or somewhere else that could help me out it would be much appreciated.

Oh…I think I’ve read this one…cannot remember what it was though.  Nuts.  I’m so sorry!  🙁

Holy cripes, f’real?  in two comments you’ve nailed it….is that a record???

    *highfive*

  3. Lorelie says:

Nope, the record’s one shot, one kill.  That even gains one a Smart Bitch Title.

Return Engagement was pub. in 2003, not that long ago. Don’t know what book she’s looking for, but sounds like a Lavyrle Spencer to me.

  5. Jenica says:

Sounds like category to me (and one I’ve read)…can we get a follow-up hint?  Could be category, maybe a Harlequin American Romance?

  6. Laurie says:

There are two Lavyrle Spencers with similar plotlines, The Hellion and Home Song, but I believe Home Song is the one where the child is a boy (and actually present in the story).

  7. Corrina says:

I thought it sounded like a series of stories call the “Mallon Streak” but that was definitely not early 90s. About a decade earlier.

  8. fiveandfour says:

I must admit that I can’t recall if that white streak in the hair thing sounds familiar because I read this or if because, around the time the book was reportedly out, I knew a family that had that very trait.

Fiction and reality are all swirled up together in my head and it’s freaking me out!

  9. Holli says:

Didn’t Fayrene Preston have a whole series of Loveswepts where the heroes had a streak in their hair called the Damaron Mark?  I could be remembering that incorrectly but it would have been in the 90’s.

  10. Sorry, the book is supposedly written in FUTURE tense?

I find that hard to believe. “We will do this,” “She will do that, “He will say”? I am majorly confuzzled.

  11. SonomaLass says:

I remember the Mallen trilogy, by Catherine Cookson.  They were some of the first romance novels I read that weren’t Harlequin paperbacks, and I was amazed at the difference.  Got me hooked on series romance, and historicals.  But that’s a bit off-topic, because other than the white streak, Raina’s book doesn’t sound like one of the Mallen books.

Hmmm, I will keep digging in my memory….
