I Spy With My Little Eye: Nominated Bitches!

Thanks to Kalen Hughes, I have spied with my little bespectacled eye the Romantic Times nominations for Reader’s Choice awards. Hello there, Nathalie Gray, Victoria Dahl, and Kalen Hughes. And Julia Quinn. And damn, that’s a LOT of nominees. How long is this awards ceremony?

I’m STILL SCROLLING. And look, Dot Frank. She lives in my town.

And PC Cast and Kristin Cast – hot diggity.  And J.D. Robb.

OK, still scrolling. Holy cow.

Samantha Graves! Marianne Stillings! Jeaniene Frost!

AND THERE BETTER BE A BATHROOM BREAK TIMES 10 if this is all in one ceremony, is all I’m sayin’.

Look, there’s Lilith Saintcrow’s Dante Valentine nominated as best heroine – whee!

I need a bathroom break from reading this list.

Liz Fielding is nominated too!

And my eyes are crossing. I’m actually cross-eyed so it’s not like this is a new thing but with double vision this list just got twice as long. And if there’s someone here who I’ve missed, give yourself a shoutout.

WOW. That’s a lot of nominees. So, since I know diddly-poo about the RT conference except that I plan on going, is this one ceremony? Or, is there a ceremony? Or are the winners issued in a blanket announcement? And is it going to be Saturday night this year because who the hell crapping planned it to coincide with Pesach such that all us Passover-celebrating Jewish folk have to head off to seder on Saturday night? Because, dude, BOO on that decision.

My matzo musings notwithstanding, booyah to those who scored a nomination – name checking is always a good thing.

  1. I know! I couldn’t believe my name was in there among the rest. Until they realize it was just a mistake and didn’t really mean to put my name there, I intend to bask in it like merde and like mon dieu.

Um. It doesn’t sound as good as “like whoa, and like damn”.

And are you planning to be there for real? Don’t toy with me now. Is it for realz?!

  2. Jackie says:

    There’s roughly a zillion categories—and whee, about 12 of them are paranormal/fantasy-related!

Congratulations to all who were nominated!

  3. SB Sarah says:

I’m planning on being there for real.

And “like merde and mon dieu” is so great I’m mercilessly stealing it and saying that all damn day. It’s way better than “like mierda and dios mio.”

  4. Kalen Hughes says:

My friends and I are thinking about going since most of us seem to have made the list. How strange and wonderful is that? Out of my little clique, three of us are on the list (me, Monica McCarty, and Bella Andre). And I have to say that Jami Alden was ROBBED. There was much discussion among my reader-only girlfriends on that topic Friday night.

  5. Sarah – I went to RT in 2006 (Daytona Beach) and all the awards are given at one dinner – all in one setting. Plan for a numb ass before it’s all done. By the time they got to the awards near the end of the evening, the room was fairly empty.

Have fun. RT is a wild party

  6. The awards will be given out on Friday at lunchtime.  You can check the Romantic Times convention schedule for the when & where.

I’ll be there, since I’m one of the nominees. 🙂

  7. Woohoo!!! I finally made it to Smart Bitches!!! Oh, and I was nominated by RT too! *g*

Nathalie, I didn’t know you were in there. (List. Too. Long.) You rock!!!

I’ve heard a rumor that they tell you if you’ve won so that you can go to the ceremony. (Like the Mtv Movie Awards?) Does anyone know how this really works?

Thanks, Bitches! And big congrats to all my friends on the list! (List. Too. Long.)

    The RT website says:

Winners will be announced in the June issue of RT, just prior to our 25th annual Booklovers Convention in Pittsburgh, Pa., April 16 – 20.

I find this utterly confusing. How can the June mag be prior to the April con? Is it just me or does this make no sense?

And now I know I can’t go, cause I’ll be in New Orleans that weekend for the Pyrate Con (I’m giving a workshop on historical clothing during the Golden Age of Piracy and drinking all the hurricanes I can handle). Oh, well. Maybe I can dub Sarah as my official spokesperson in case I win. *grin*

  9. SB Sarah says:

I do not have awesome curly hair, and I know diddly jackass about stays or corset sand when one might properly wear a pelisse, but I would TOTALLY ACCEPT THAT AWARD on your behalf and have a BALL doing it.

  10. Sandra D says:

Very cool, huge congrats to all the nominees. I still get all squee fangirly when any of the authors I read posts on here, and that’s been happening a lot.

  11. Kalen Hughes says:

Somehow I think the mere fact that you’re SB Sarah outweights the awesome curliness of my hair. LOL!

  12. Can I just mention how awesome it is to be listed under the category “Nominated Bitches”? Ha! PERFECT.

Kalen, my current heroine (a contemp) has curly hair that she loves, so I’ll have to email you with any curly hair care questions that come up. And Nathalie, there’s a shout-out to you too. I’ll email it. *snicker* Perhaps the subtitle should be “A Nominated Bitches Book.”

  13. Kay Webb Harrison says:

I just received my Feb 2008 issue of RT Book Club. The June issue should arrive at the beginning of May. I guess to be in the June issue, the winners will have to be chosen before the June issue is printed, in Mar or Apr?

  14. Seressia says:

Yep I knew I’d won before the convention began last year, though I didn’t really believe it until I held the plaque in my hands.  They also have it listed on the program, they call your name, you go up, grab, say some words, come back down the other side.  All very awesome.

Congrats to everyone nominated this year!

  15. Unless they’ve changed the rules, you only get a plaque if you’re at the awards lunch to collect it. Which pretty much sucks, I reckon
