This Will Keep Me Busy

KS Augustin gave me a heads up about the Romance Wiki – and oh dear. There goes many, many hours of my life.

Both SBTB and DA are listed on the reviewers page, but Mrs. Giggles is not there?

Avast! I shall log in and edit. And walk the Plank of Productivity into the sea of Getting Nothing Done Today.

    Oh. Dear.  Lord.

    My ass might get fired.

“Not a site for those who dislike obscenity.”

    bwahaha

    Fuckin’ A!

oh, yes. and searching for “Beta Hero” brings up links by KS Augustin. hmmm.

  3. Ah, good reminder that I should probably update my entry.

  4. Najida says:

    I like it!

As for obscenity, I the the feeling those that label some things in Romancia Obscene are the same ones who put warning tags on some pretty tame You Tube stuff.

    Sheesh.

  5. Molly says:

Oooh! I found it a while back . . . I’ll need to reread everything once the Smart Bitches have fixed everything up.

blood15 . . . does that mean I should check out vampire romances?

  6. Carrie Lofty says:

    DamndamndamnyouSBSarah.

  7. Charlene says:

Najida, from what I’ve read on LJ over the past few hours, it seems that the definition of obscenity/porn is “whatever turns women on”.

  8. It’s maybe not the most easy to find section, but the Wiki’s got a Romance Scholarship section (which includes a huge bibliography). [In the interests of full disclosure I feel I should say that that’s a section I’ve done quite a bit of work on.]

Another of my favourite sections is the one on Romance History because it includes some old guidelines, written by romance publishers in the 1980s.

  9. Did anyone notice in the section on Academics who Write Romance, that some of the poor professors are alphabetized by fist name and some are alphabetized by last? I want whatever they were smoking!

  10. Lucinda, the list isn’t made up manually but rather is created automatically by the Wiki programme. I suspect it might have something to do with tags on the authors’ pages. I’ll ask the admins if they know of a way to fix it.

  11. Jaysus! I suppose it’s a good thing this family needs dinner, it stops me at three hours wasted.  More to come, I’m sure!

    Thanks a ton, SB’s.

Jeez, just what I need another site that allows me to use up tons of my time.  Thank you very much, don’t have enough of those.  *sigh*  I will persevere.  Gots to love more info.

“Obscenity”?  What?  Where?  Ohhh, you mean the fucks and shit and stuff.  Naw that’s not obscene, just creatively verbal.  To paraphrase the good member of the Supreme Court, “I know it when I see it” and this ain’t it.

If Jude Law needs refuge, I’ll be happy to take him in. 😉

I hope he likes dogs. I’m sure my dogs would like him ‘cause they’re both female.

Kewl! That must be because I mentioned “beta” in my entry. (Or else you’ve cottoned on to the fact that I, in fact, am the sole dictator of RW and that *every* search result leads to me. Mwahahahaha.)

But, srsly, also disappointed. A lot of authors love beta heroes. Or so I read. Does this mean **none** of them mentioned it in their own entries? How remiss.

As for wasting hours and hours of one’s time. Sure, spread it around. Why should I be the only one frittering away precious minutes when I should be working?

I really enjoyed this article about Nora Roberts that’s linked on her Wiki page: from the Philly Inquirer.

Angels Fall wasn’t my favorite (that would be Three Fates, which got me hooked and, eventually, brought me the Smart Bitches) but I appreciate this appraisal. It’s considered and scholastic and fair, especially this part:

To put it another way, popular literature tends to affirm what we already know. …Such maxims are what we were taught to believe by our parents, teachers and clergy when we were children. Experience has shown that they are not entirely true, but sometimes we want to think they are.

This kind of sums up the reason I read romance novels: They are an antidote to Karl Rove and the New York Times and crappy boys who move to Ohio instead of sleeping with me.
