Schedule and other schedules

Candy and I have been trying to figure out when to plan a time for a SBTB in the Bar gathering, but it seems there’s the RWA schedule – and then there’s a lot of extra stuff we don’t know about! We are such RWA National Noobs. Aside from workshops and keynotes and big gatherings of formally-dressed romance writers, there are publisher signings and editor appointments and schmoozing nonstop in the evening.

So we ask you: if you could predict, what would be a good time for us to plant ourselves in the bar and meet you all face-to-face? Saturday afternoon? At the airport Sunday morning? Monday after everyone leaves? What’s your call?

Otherwise, we’ll figure something out – or it’ll happen spontaneously, which is how must things happen around here!

  1. Kalen Hughes says:

Saturday afternoon works fantastically for me. It’s one of the few holes in my schedule.

  2. Walt says:

Not the thread for it, but a question came up: Anybody been to the Conference Hotel enough to know if the coffee machines in the room are “filter pod” based?  I like MY coffee, and I’ll buy one of those pod filter making doodads and make my own if I have to.

  3. Melissa says:

I’ll be there wherever and whenever it is. I’ll be in Dallas on Tuesday and won’t leave until the Monday morning.

  4. Ann Aguirre says:

Saturday afternoon should be fine for me too.

  5. Mel-O-Drama says:

I’ll figure it out…just name the day and time… 🙂

  6. How about Thursday at 5?  That’s before the welcome reception, right?

  7. Barb Ferrer says:

I’m good with Thursday or Saturday—but then I’m easy.

  8. Jane says:

Not to put a wrench in the Saturday afternoon thing, but Random House is giving away Sherry Thomas’ February? March? April?  I can’t recall 2008 release and if you are a historical fan, you’ll want a copy.  Just saying.  I think the signing is at 2pm.

It’s schwag.  Who can resist schwag?

  9. Kalen Hughes says:

I’m still holding out for Sat. My Thurs is already booked solid.

  10. Kalen Hughes says:

Nora Robert’s cocktail? Huh? More info please!

  11. SB Sarah says:

I’m thinking a Saturday afternoon Bitchy Hour would work great given the feedback I’ve received. Bitchy hour is probably somewhere between lunch time and Happy Hour, yeah?

Yeah. Let me confer with Candy and we’ll nail down a time.

  12. Jane says:

Kalen – AAR mentions a pre-RITA cocktail party that Nora hosts.

  13. Kalen Hughes says:

That’s a pretty small, invite only, thing. I doubt many of us need to worry about booking a conflict (not that I wouldn’t ditch my own mother to attend, LOL!).

  14. Thanks, Jane, for the plug.  The Random House autographing is 2:30-4 Sat pm.

But who am I to throw a wrench into the Bitchery’s plan?  There will be ARCs in the goody room too, for people who can’t make it to the signing.

  15. Melissa says:

Kalen I would also ditch my mother but then again Nora is having an author chat. I figured if I can just see the top of her head my trip would be worth it. Hell, if I can just get a bobblehead.

  16. Anyone get a bobblehead? Think there might be some a nationals?

If I promise to ditch my roommies, mother, and anyone else, I wanna go to the “pre-Rita cocktails” with Nora!

Drinks with the bitches. How fun. Besides our sparkling personalities, how shall we find each other? Is there a secret signal? secret handshake we need to learn? A name with BITCH spelled out in diamonds?

  17. Michele says:

You say when and I’ll do my best to show up. I’m a Nationals newbie also so I figure I’ll find where I’m going by Sunday.

But I’m hoping for at least a glimpse of La Nora.

  18. Carrie Lofty says:

Do we have to hold out our pouty lips like that woman wearing the BITCH pin is doing? Coz that’ll make snarking difficult.

And I’m in for Saturday afternoon. Maybe I’ll print a name sticker with my Bitchery title on it. My O-face girl is that horrible Elizabethan ruff collar clench cover that tortured Kalen so badly.

  19. Bonnie C says:

Ok, I am now getting seriously bummed I decided to not attend this year’s RWA.

If memory serves, Friday night and Saturday after about 2-3 pm are usually “open” periods in the conference schedule. There’s the Friday MIdnite Bazzar (sp?), usually some nice stuff mixed in with the truly bizarre but thankfully the bar’s always open.

    Have fun all!
