Hot Lesbian 100

Oh, imagine the Google hits we’ll get off that title. All I need to do is drop the word “Dominican Bitches” in there somewhere and we’re set for another year of weird referral hits.

But hat tip to Lilith Saintcrow who sent us this list: AfterEllen’s List of the top 100 hottest women as voted on by their readers. AfterEllen, a site for “news and reviews of gay and bisexual women in entertainment and the media” (that’s a mouthful), was rather disappointed by the relative un-hotness of the Maxim Hot 100, so they did their own list.

Clearly, what straight men and lesbians find sexy in a woman is a little bit different. “Hot” for lesbians and bisexual women comes in all ages, sizes, colors and styles, as the diversity of women on our list demonstrates — from Tina Fey (No. 7) and Helen Mirren (No. 31), to Ellen DeGeneres (No. 50), America Ferrera (No. 30) and Queen Latifah (No. 55). There’s even a conservative Republican in the mix (Angie Harmon, No. 82), proving we can still find a women sexy even if we don’t agree with her alternative lifestyle choice….

Many of these women aren’t just women we like, they’re women we want to be like — women we admire as well as desire.

The list is quite impressive. It’s not men in kilts, but it’s something equally clever to consider, certainly. Kate Winslet in the top 10? As far as I’m concerned, this list is dead on.

Wow…so much girl-crush material to be had there.

  2. Bella says:

    my 2 cents:
Mariska Hargitay and Rachel Weisz should have scored way higher

Lucy Lawless should not be allowed to be blonde, in any universe.

Emma Thompson and Meryl Streep? Very Cool.

Is it just me or does #98, Amelie Mauresmo, look like Fabio’s twin sister?

  3. Victoria Dahl says:

    Tina Fey!!!!!!! Hawt!

  4. Kalen Hughes says:

I saw this over the weekend. The reason? Some entertainment show pointed out that Lindsey Lowhan (sp? can’t be bothered to really care) is #1 with men, but didn’t even crack the top 50 with the lezzies (she’s something like #76).

On another note, why does my brain insist on retaining such information? Why, mommy? Why?

  5. Jess says:

I loved the people on that list. Seriously, Eliza Duskhu? I gave up my Drew Barrymore crush for her after seeing Faith. Both Faith and Tru were darker characters, but Eliza gave them such different roles.

Oh, I’m sorry there were other people? But seriously, that list kicked all kinds of butt. I might not agree some of the numbers, but they got most of the people that *I* find hot. Kate Winslet? Oh, hell yeah. I’m not really on board the ‘Angelina is hot’ list, but I know so many other people are. Why shall forever be a mystery, but Michelle Pfeiffer. *sighs happily* She’d be in my top 10 (+1) with Kate, Eliza, Michelle Williams, Mariska,  Latifah, Rachel Weisz, Charlize, Carly Pope, Charisma Carpenter, and Torri Higginson.

  6. I bet this list would be more accurate if guys judged their Top 100 based on “gals you’d wanna bang again in the morning, too, and then have breakfast with”—since most of the girls Maxim chose would bore someone to death after just 24 hours.

“good52” (!) That *is* a good list. I almost wanna be a lesbian!

Do straight ladies have a Top 100 equivalent? Besides People Mag’s notoriously awful Bachelors issue?

  7. Mel-O-Drama says:

My hubby said he preferred that list to the Maxim list because not only are the women beautiful, but they also seem real.

I think the list was dead on…except for Rachel Weisz (sorry Bella). RW gives me the creeps. *shudder*

  8. I just about had a heart attack…Pink and Jessica Alba back to back.  *sigh*

  9. Oooh, great list.  It’s enough to give one a girlcrush.

  10. LViolet says:

If Helen Mirren isn’t in the top three, I don’t wanna be a lesbian.

And Kate Winslet? Quel ordinaire. How about Cate Blanchett? Now there’s a beautiful woman!

  11. Carrie Lofty says:

A lovely list. Lovely in all manner of ways. I would have liked to see Gong Li and Naomie Harris, but that’s just me. And did you notice the huge variety of colors and ages and sizes and personalities? The variety should be enough to please anyone, not just lesbians—except maybe for the airbrushed ass/fake tits crowd over at Maxim.

  12. DS says:

This is totally off topic, but while I was shopping this afternoon in my local very stodgy, dull mall (Appalachian town of about 50,000) I saw a man wearing a kilt!  It looked like denim and he didn’t seem to be in the least self concious or to notice that he was being stalked around a computer store by a middle aged woman who wanted to make sure she had seen what she thought she had seen.  I didn’t get to look up it though.

  13. EGS says:

Blugh on Angelina Jolie, yey on Kate Winslet.  Although I’m always up for a list that doesn’t have Lindsay Lohan as #1 (ew).

  14. Arethusa says:

Second the wish for Gong Li and add a Maggie Cheung and Cate Blanchett to that order. Yummm. I also dig Rachel Weisz.

  15. fiveandfour says:

My husband and I were just talking about this and it’s interesting because I was looking at the AfterEllen list thinking, “Yep, these are all very attractive women” whereas my husband was looking at it thinking, “I don’t necessarily agree with all of the Maxim list, but their choices are more right on than the AfterEllen list.”

So we have markedly different ideas of what makes a woman attractive.  Never would’ve figured on that.

  16. carolyn says:

You need one of those studies where they show people photos and track their eye movements. Maybe he’s looking at the boobs and you’re looking at the eyes 😉

  17. fiveandfour says:

Funny you should say that, carolyn, because he was telling me a story *just yesterday* about how he got caught checking out a woman’s boobs for the first time in years.  Which is not to say he hasn’t been checking them out all along, only that he hasn’t been caught at it.

So your theory is all too possible!

What list were THEY reading? I see a bunch of generically pretty skinny women and Queen Latifa. I guess some of them are older, but still… And why is the ENTIRE cast of the L Word on here?

On the other hand, KATEE SACKHOFF PLEASE COME HAVE SEX WITH ME NOW.

  19. Candy says:

I found some of their choices puzzling while agreeing with a few others, but I have only one overwhelming question: how in the hell did they find the ONE unflattering picture of Penelope Cruz in existence, and why in the fuck did they use it for their article?

  20. ellbogen says:

Thanks for including this. I was pleased to see that there was a strong Buffy representation. *sigh* I miss that show.

    Eliza. Call me. Seriously.

I looked at the Maxim list and didn’t recognize half the ladies on there. Who are these women?

And why didn’t Jodie have a * by her name on the afterellen list? Hello, bigtime lesbian.

    Thanks for all the hotness.

  21. Jen C says:

ellbogen- but she isn’t out of the closet, at least not officially, so it would be rude.

I loved the list, personally, but the one thing that bugged me- not enough WOC represented.  However, when I sat down and thought about hot women of color, I couldn’t come up with many mainstream actresses who weren’t on the list.  I think the list is representing more what we see on tv, and less what AfterEllen wants to see in the world.  After all, there are some very lovely non-skinny women in this world- but how many of them are on your tv?  I can only think of that women- Carolyn M-something, who was on the Practice- what other larger women are big in the media?

Also, this was all voted on by the readers, so of course the L Word will be strongly represented.
