Mickey & Minnie

Because I am a ginormous dork, when I ordered stamps, I ordered myself the Art of Disney: Romance collection. They didn’t have Smart Bitch Commemorative stamps, so I took my next best option.

I was just putting a stamp on a letter when I looked at the selection. Check it out:

We have Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella, Lady & the Tramp, and Minnie & Mickey. Looks almost like three core romance themes, and one… mouse story. What is Mickey and Minnie’s story anyway? It’s not like the other stamps in the series, which are variations on very common stories. Do Mickey and Minnie have a romance? Or are they just a permanent couple? WikiPedia has one entry regard Mickey as a suitor, but I’ve always seen Mickey and Minnie as a pair. Was there a courtship?

And am I thinking about postal stamps too much?

Wow, first reply! Woohoo on slacking! Go me!

“And am I thinking about postal stamps too much? ”

Maybe. Then again, the person who put that Wiki article up has done waaaaay too much thinking in to Mickey. Way. Even if they were paid by Disney to do it.

I might be high, but I remember some old school … really old school … cartoons where there was a Popeye/Olive/Bluto situation going on. Like where they try to out maneuver each other for a date with Minnie. I’m relatively sure the other mouse’s name was Mortimer and on occasion Minnie chose him over Mick.

I’m not the post office, but I’ll give you your own stamp!

Madd, that stamp is awesome. How did you do it? I am in constant awe of actual technical skills.

This post made me laugh, because it reminded me of one of my standard freshman dorm questions when we were all sitting around drunk at 3am in the hallway: “If you could get with any Disney character, who would it be?”

I’m a Robin Hood girl myself. But I always thought Lady and the Tramp had the best romance (who doesn’t love the spaghetti scene?) And then I wonder if I have a sick fascination with animated animals. Because Prince Charming with that Ken Doll hair? Not really attractive to me.

I just like to play with photoshop … it’s good fun.

I was always partial to the beast before the curse got broken. What does that say about me? I haven’t a clue! Beast aside I think Li Shang from Mulan isn’t half bad.

  5. Firefly says:

You could have a photostamp made with that image:

Well, assuming they don’t consider the word bitches “blasphemous.”

  6. God DAMN, I would buy those stamps!

  7. Nicolette says:

    I would buy them, too.

Lady and the Tramp is by far my favorite. What does it say about me that I consider the spaghetti scene the height of romance?

    Oh, Miss Laaaay-dee, Maam!

  8. Ziggy says:

    Sweet God, those are cute!

    But no Robin Hood/Maid Marian?!

  9. dl says:

Sarah, I think SB can make their own postage stamps!  I saw a notice recently, about making real postage stamps with your own artwork/photo.  Available through a USPS website? and are legal postage.

    Awesome art Madd!

  10. I want those stamps!  Madd, that is so cool!

In the meantime, I’m settling for the superhero stamps, out this month.  DC heroes this round, perhaps Marvel to follow.

  11. karibelle says:

If I bought those stamps, they would never make it on to a single envelope.  My daughter would have them afixed to every surface in her “Disney Princesses” themed bedroom.  But they are really cool.

  12. gigi says:

Heeeeeyyyy…  how in *hottest hades* can they call these “romance” stamps, when they’re in direct violation of the “one man, one woman” rule?  I personally must protest.  Look, there’s even woman/beast action going on here!  Sick, I tell you.

  13. Jacqueline says:

Okay, is it just me, or do Cinderella and Prince Charming look, like, 14 years old?

And I don’t know about these multi-species romances (Belle and the Beast) or the mutt-pedigree romance, either.

Hmmmm, maybe Disney is more subversive than I thought…

  14. sarah says:

the REAL question here is: What would Jan Butler think of these stamps? Woman and non-man? Sick. I’d rank that right up there with pedophilia if I were Janniepants.

  15. mckay says:

you’re very right. M&M to have a different thing going on…i think it’s a courtship, but i also think it’s exclusive.

i tell ya what, since i’m a passholder at the big D, next time i go there i’ll ask minnie to give me the dish.
