From the dedication page of Time Off for Good Behavior by Lani Diane Rich:
“And last, without trying to sound like I’m pandering, because I really mean this, I’d like to thank everyone who reads this book. You may not realize it, but every time you read a book, you’re validating every author who ever thought up a story and, despite the overwhelming odds, said, “I’m gonna give this a shot.” You’ve made dreams come true, and that’s one of the most important things a human being can do. So go forth and feel good about yourself. You rock.”
I’ve never had a book suck up to me, the reader, before, but damn, now that felt oh-so-good. Thanks, and you’re welcome!
Please let us know how you like the book, Candy, since this is one I’d like to read.
I have to laugh, though, because the acknowledgements of MaryJanice Davidson’s new Undead book begins as follows: “This book would not have been possible without . . . me!”
Also, I just want to clarify that there seem to be three Robins posting now (Robyn, Robin123, and me—just plain Robin).
You’re very articulate Robin. I’d never confuse you with someone else.
What a fantastic dedication and very, very true.
It is a compliment of the highest order when someone takes time out of a very busy day, goes through a huge selection of things to read and picks your creation. Even if they end up thinking it’s a wallbanger, the fact that they spent time on it means a great deal.
I agree, WR, and really, it’s so true. I even get that feeling about this site. You read this? No way! We, like, came up with this on a whim! No way! How cool!
And that is enough exclamation points for one night.
Lani is a fabulous, fabulous person, to boot, and I can assure you that her dedication is completely sincere.
And in my opinion, the book is awesome. Still, eager to hear the SB version.
For some reason, this girl bugs the heck out of me. I am sure she is wonderful but for some reason I cannot bring myself to buy her books. She is too – and her dedication is too – well, I just can’t articulate it.
