I’ve gone NUTS. Seriously, I have.
I’ve been having a bad couple of days, with some drama going on both at work and at home. (Don’t worry, I’m not about to lose my job, but some Bigwigs HAVE lost their jobs, hence everyone is walking on eggshells and waiting for more axes to fall as the next inevitable round of “restructuring” begins.) As a result, I’ve been much, much more snarly and cranky than usual.
Do I work my stress out by exercising? Meditating? Learning to let go of my anger? Or (most realistically) watching some old episodes of Sealab 2021 to cheer me up?
No. That’s what a sane person would’ve done, and do recollect, I have declared myself non compos mentis.
Instead, I went on Amazon, my pretties, and in a veritable spree of mouse-clicking, bought these books:

Buying books is a sickness with me. And the worst thing is, I don’t want to get help. I’m a biblioholic, happily drowning in a sea of paper and bad cover art.
I have a Reon Laudat book in my Amazon cart too, but I think it’s the Feb 05 one. Monica led me there (from her recommendation on RTB) and the nice Amazon “Look Inside” feature sucked me in. I’ll be interested to see what you think of the first Kate Rothwell one. I think the heroine was a bit unrealistic at times, but I did like her. I especially liked how the hero wasn’t a hero or some rich guy. I still haven’t read Emma Holly, might have to rectify that someday. And I’ve got the Ranney one on my tbr pile, but I haven’t read it yet.
So um, I guess my post doesn’t have a point, but I do understand the whole stress equals book-buying.
So…are we ever going to see some Chick Lit romance reviews on here?

Ya know, my friend Snookie (romance-aholic) says quite frequently that in terms of escape and release from a too-often stressful life, one could do a lot worse than going through Romance novels like so much disposable tissue. Instead of a heap-o-Holly, you could’ve turned to heroine, opium-eating, a vast array of fine liquors, bungee-jumping, buying multiple pairs of $2000 shoes for the shopper’s high, having sex with random strangers in seedy hotel rooms and getting pregant and not knowing if your husband was the realfather or if it was one of a series of Amtrak salesmen, beating up little old ladies, eating soft-fleshed newborn kittens, or (God help us) reading Grisham.
I for one applaud you.
It’s great to find another fan of Sealab 2021. I love that show and own the first two seasons on DVD. I also love The Brak Show and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Do you watch those as well?
I like anime, but I wish Adult Swim would continue with these great shows instead of switching completely to anime.
Nicole: I have Exes and Ohs in my TBR pile, but Sarah is much more the chick-lit afficionado of the two of us. I like chick-lit OK, but the arch tone starts to get to me after a while.
Beth: Thank you. I did consider the heroin and the seedy strangers, but the fear of HIV convinced me not to.
Beverly: I like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but I’ve only seen half the episodes from the first season. I’ve never actually caught an actual episode of The Brak Show, because I don’t have cable no mo’, but I love Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Sealab 2021 is by far my favorite, though. How can I not love a show with a character named Stormy Waters?
Funny, Exes and Ohs was actually one I was curious about your take on. I enjoyed it a lot. I think knowing it was chick lit and not necessarily a romance made it even better.
I enjoy Adult Swim, though my husband does more than I do. I need to find Harvey Birdman on dvd for him. I don’t feel like paying $25 for something with only 13 15-minute episodes.
I enjoy anime, but I don’t watch it much on Cartoon Network since it’s always on so late and then I’m usually in bed reading or well, you know. *g* So I tend to get it from the library or Blockbuster. Or buy it. Got two GITS: SaC volumes for my birthday this week.

I’d be a biblioholic, if I could afford both the time and the money. I’m multi-tasking everything just now – like reading my borrowed-from-the-library romances while walking on the treadmill at the gym. Knitting socks for my sister’s birthday present while sitting at the computer writing. When I finish writing this damn book, I’m going to take a whole weekend and just curl up and read. Luxury.
Isn’t Sealab 2021 the greatest? Drawn Together is a close second in the entirely inappropriate, but compellingly watchable adult cartoon fare.
Menage and Velvet Glove are in my to be read pile. It’s hard, but I’m trying to pace myself Holly-wise, just so I’ll have something to look forward to.
